I've been riding along in with my boyfriend in his tanker truck for about a month and plan on continuing to do so for the foreseeable future. I really like it! He has been a driver for about 7 months. We were talking about the guys that drive oversize/overweight/etc loads with the pilot cars today. We don't want to team drive because he can't sleep in a moving vehicle, but is there anybody who does a team-type-thing where he would drive the truck and I would drive a pilot car? I did some google searches but couldn't find much information except that the pilot car laws in each state are different... So I have no idea if we could feasibly do something like this or not. Right now, he is a company driver for Schneider bulk and I work when we are home 1 week/month.

let me know if you have any advice/ideas/experience with that :)

Of course they do, lol. We had to fill out a crap ton of paperwork. He wouldn't jeopardize his job doing something like that withough going through the proper channels.

I met an owner operator who was leased to Landstar and his wife ran the pilot car. It worked for them. I don't know what was involved in their situation.

I was asked about this once before, and here is what the problem is, there isn't a lot of money to cover the expenses when there is no oversize loads. The guy who leases my truck does HH and his wife thought about that too. It was decided not to try it because he contracts with different pilot cars while he gets his backhauls that are just plain jane flat bed loads for the most part or loads that don't need a pilot car(s) so he will take a HH load to Arizona and then pick up something to get to Kentucky and have a full trailer. So I would think that having another car to pay for fuel and so on would not really work out.

The couple that I noted in my previous post had a somewhat dedicated run from Louisiana to Michigan. I don't know how long it lasted, but they did well at the time. I would think that it would be difficult if you both wanted to travel together and you do the pilot car without having something consistent as this couple.
