    Every engine is different.

Idk why you guys are so scared to wind out an engine.

“My c12 won’t pull hills! I need a 3406 at 80k pounds!” It’s a small block cat. They flourish at 1600-1900rpms and even higher for the Jakes to work.

You have gears for a reason, use them.

If I can drive an 95k pound mixer off road effectively with 350hp you can do it at 80k on the damb highway.

Buy some tired old iron if it’s that bad and have fun with that...

Petal to the metal until it stops pulling hard and upshift. You’ll find where it likes to be in no time.

You really don’t want to be bogging a truck, keep the revs up.

It has no low end grunt on a steep hill does not matter how low the gear. I have down shifted all the way to 2nd gear on a steep hill. If your in a low enough gear on a steep hill the rpms should recover. The thing honestly does not run right. If there is another truck I can use I will only use this truck when I need a day cab. When it was at kenworth they took a loaded water tanker to kenworth. I bet kenworth only ran it on level. They need to hook up to the 75k lb McCormick load and go up what I call Harkins Hill with it. The steep hill on my way to Harkins farm.

This is why I had to back down the hill. I kept down shifting and the rpms would never go back up. You don't downshift at 1600 rpm.

i asked my boss if i could drive truck 61 (the old international with the 6NZ cat engine) he had no problem with that..... im only going to use the day cab for one particular farm with a tight driveway. i know a number of drivers that have driven that T680 and none of them are happy with the truck, i know of one driver that said he would rather stay home that drive that truck. there is something quite not right with it.

i really like that truck 61, i love any truck powered by a cat. i wished i could get one of those in a day cab, when i was driving dump truck i drove an international eagle dump truck and i loved that too. such a nice ridding truck with decent power.

Man, you make a whole lot of demands for a
2 year rookie who's never done anything but that
    Milk truck.

    No mountain experience,
    No city expierence,
    No dock experience,
No blindside backing off of downtown city
    Streets expierence.

No trucking 10 hours thru a blizzard experience.
I wouldn't trust you to back a 53 trailer in between
To trucks at the truck stop at 6 pm.

You want something to complain about.
Come out here and do what we do.
We do all that #### everyday.
We don't even think about it.
It's just part of the job.

You should be able to drive anything,
    Anytime,anywhere.

Others have chimed in about your post. I will too.

It all depends on what engine and drive train you have. Some set ups like to pull hills at 1800 rpm's all day, with the oil pushing through the block and the engine fan doing its job.

Even with neutered modern equipment I rarely like to pull a hill at less than 1500 rpm's. Sure, you get maximum torque at say around 1300, but what's the point? Why pull a hill, putting the engine under stress, with less than optimal rpm's to keep the engine fan cooling the engine effectively AND keep oil flowing? You NEVER want to floor it for extended time with rom's down under 1400.

The best idea is to climb the hill WITHOUT flooring it. Leave enough so you can accelerate. Climb at about 1400-1600 with an easy throttle. Your engine will start sexting you.

    Promise.
