Heading out to pick up a CAT 621B scraper tomorrow morning.

I did one similar to this back in the early 90's. We used a short 'Dolly' style trailer and let the back half of the scraper trailer behind on the ground.

Picking up in Arkansas,.. dropping it in Texas.

I've got 25' well,.. 4 axles on trailer, 2 drop axles on tractor to make a 9 axle set up. I can stretch out the well,.. but carrier wants to avoid needing pilot/escorts if possible.

My concern is carrier says to run it up on the upper deck of the back end of the trailer and secure it down that way. Thats fine,.. but if memory serves correct,.. 621 is almost 12' tall. Rear upper deck is about 3' when I lower the ride height. Thats as low as I can get it back there.

Also,.. AR only allows what,.. 67k on quads? So I need to watch my weight there as well. I dont think loading it with the engine to the front will work,.. will be too heavy on my quads.

I tried looking up pics on google,.. not much success finding what I am looking for.

Total weight of the machine is supposed to be 67k. Compared to what I have been moving last couple weeks,.. it wont be too heavy.

    Thanks in advance.

Back it on, rear tires on the second bolster (between second and third axle I know your trailer is covered in the rear) it will be fine. I haul 627's this way all the time, a 21 is quite a bit lighter. If memory serves I have about 48,000 on my drives and a little over 73,000 on my trailer. Several local companies have 21's and they move them on tandem tractors with tri-axle trailers. Here's one of our's on my trailer.

I'm familiar with the machine. I have the dimensions and specs.

Just needed loading advise on how to load it on the trailer.

I've found what I needed now. I appreciate those who chimed in.

I wasnt sure which direction to load it.. whether I needed to keep it in the well or to utilize the rear deck.

Putting in on facing forward. Stretching the trailer 1 pin. Rear tires on upper deck.. but letting the belly lay on the lower deck and edge of upper deck. Chain it down that way.

    Thanks everyone.

    Sure,..

Wasnt too as heavy as I thought it would be. Had to stretch the trailer 1 slot so the rear tires rested on the support beam on the rear deck. The 2 axles closest to the well do not have a support beam on the deck.

I ended up lowering the pan so it rested on the rear ramp,.. but with enough of the tire on the deck to even out the weight dispersion. 8 chains was all I used.

The fun part was loading it. Picked it up at a county works facility. It was an old Army spec 621.
I have some minor experience with scrapers,.. 513 and 613 paddle pans, and the old Terex double barrel behemoths.

This one much like the ones I ran back in the day,.. had no brakes to really be effective. To make it really interesting,.. the go pedal was sticky,.. so in order to stop you had to throw it in neutral and then pull back on the pedal. Thought my wife was going to pee herself when I finally got it up on the upper deck and had to throw in in neutral. Skeered me a little too. LOL

That trailer has load bearing wheel covers on it you could've put that machine anywhere you wanted although I usually try and use the bolsters whenever possible.

I was thinking that too, I wouldn't stretch a trailer if I didn't have to which for that you wouldn't. I'm from the shorter the better to get around with school. But he made the delivery so it worked out.
