Finally traded my 2006 KW W900L day cab. 210" wheel base ACERT, 18 spd 3:55 on AG400. I bought it brand new in February 06. sad to see it go but with the day cab it was time. Looked around for 6 months before finding a 2013 Peterbilt 389 glider, used. It's a 228" wheel base with a 36 inch bunk. 6NZ 18 spd 3:73 46k on air trac.
I've had the Pete a few weeks now. I like the truck over all but.... who in their right mind would buy a truck with air trac? What the heck was Pete thinking? It's a good thing it has full locking rears as it gets stuck in its own shadow. My old W9 would go places with out the power divider locked that the Pete can't go locked in. (Like the end of my driveway)! The Pete does ride better but it has a lighter front axle, it's longer, the cab air ride is softer all of that adds up. From what I've read here, all you read are complaints about the AG style suspension... I'll take it over air trac.
And I always wanted the mighty 6NZ. What a let down. I'd rather have my old ACERT. 6NZ has more top end power and probabably a higher hp number but if you dyno'ed them the ACERT would have more order the curve. The 6NZ on the interstate is good but really lacks on skinny hilly roads.
On the plus side the Pete with the longer wheel base will turn a lot sharper than the W9. And did I mention it rides better.
Its a good truck.........It'll take time and I'll get used to it.
Well that's my take anyway.

You can always have your acert tuned/tweaked up the ecm and not spend more $$$$ for single turbo conversion. Who knows how they reman the 6nz in that 389.

I'm amazed it rides better. Must the unibunk. The air trac is a tough suspension that stays in alignment well. Other than that... Its common knowledge that the twin turbos pulled better than the single turbos. Guys like the single turbos because there was less to go wrong. Plus the early acerts were brutal on fuel mileage. Good luck with the truck.
russtrucker Thanks this. -
The ACERT was tuned but so is the 6NZ. I've had the truck for two weeks couldn't take it after the first one. Don't get me wrong it runs good and is strong just not like the ACERT.
I'm just complaining and missing my old truck. But I don't really want it back if that makes any sense. I've spent one night in the Pete. I got up in the morning and could walk. -
the twins win

A wider front axle will steer better in tight areas, but it is a option when ordering a truck and some don't purchase it.
I found this out when i test drove a W900L and was surprised how well it did in tight areas, the salesman told me after i purchased the truck that they never order a KW without the front axle option.Ruthless Thanks this. -
Sounds like this isn't an issue with Peterbilt vs. Kenworth, but you bought the wrong truck for what you want to do with it.
Trucks can be spec'd an infinite number of ways, you should have looked more into what you needed. -
Could be tires, could be lower gear set is causing you to break traction faster. Could be more torque doing the same. Doubtful it's the suspension. Jmo

@DL550CAT you get the sleeper because of eld crap coming...?
Acert has more torque I do believe.... -
