I drive a Peterbilt 365 mixer truck, 2015 or so model. with the selector switch down, you have gears 1 through 4 and R,with the selector switch up, you have gears 5 through 8 and R . There is also a high low switch on the shifter knob so that you can have for example 1st gear low or 1st gear high, etc.
What is this transmission? a 10 speed?
Peterbilt transmission type

Labrador, Big Road Skateboard and Goodysnap Thank this. -
10 speed has no splitter switch (left side)

Red is 13
Blue is 15
Grey is 18
In most cases.HoundDog7, Coffey, Labrador and 1 other person Thank this. -
I think the splitter is grey. ChatGPT says the types are below...so you think an 18 speed?
- Eaton Fuller 10-speed manual transmission
- Eaton Fuller 13-speed manual transmission
- Eaton Fuller 15-speed manual transmission
- Eaton Fuller 18-speed manual transmission
- Allison automatic transmission (various models, such as the 3000 series or 4000 series)

Based on the information provided, it is likely that your Peterbilt 365 is equipped with an Eaton Fuller manual transmission, commonly found in commercial trucks. The splitter switch indicates that the transmission has a splitter, which allows for additional gear ratios beyond the standard 8 forward gears and 2 reverse gears. The high low switch suggests that the transmission has a range selector, which allows for selecting between high and low ranges, effectively doubling the number of available gears. Eaton Fuller transmissions are known for their durability and are commonly used in heavy-duty trucks like the Peterbilt 365. However, for a definitive identification of the transmission, it is recommended to consult the manufacturer's documentation or consult a qualified mechanic.

Still it doesnt tellme which i have -
Post VIN and I’ll tell ya.
Labrador, Coffey and blairandgretchen Thank this. -
Sounds like a 13 to me. Every 13 I’ve driven had a red splitter switch, however, not grey.
I thought 18s have two splitter switches. Sorry, I’ve never driven an 18 so not sure. I’ve only driven 10s and 13s.
On the bright side, don’t sweat it too much. They’re all just H pattern. Just keep shifting ‘til ya run out of gears.Labrador Thanks this. -
It’s almost certainly an 8LL. Very common in vocational trucks. The “splitter” isn’t a splitter at all. It’s the selector for deep reduction. One way to check is to put the trans in neutral, flip the “splitter to low and try to move the range selector to high. It should be locked in low range.

To be certain, crawl under the truck, and write down the model # on the data plate on the side of the transmission. I have seen 10 speeds with a shift tower designed for 13. Post the transmission model # here, someone will have the definitive answer.
