Not everyone, including me, is familiar with the '96. Post a couple of pics and maybe get more ideas. That said, I'm sure several have had your same issue and can tell you what they did. Just have to wait for them to get done with church, sleeping in, or whatever else one might do on Easter morning.

I believe this is the fix your after.
Wiper Arm Bell Crank Mount
Please give credit and the idea was not mine.....just sharing. -
Looks like a perfect solution to a common problem. Now for the cracked axle housings and sagging door openings. I really don't understand why Pete has such a great reputation. I have a 98 international 9400 and it doesn't have near the problems that the Pete does. Thanks for the input. I will get some of these made.

Axle housings are cracked due to loose u-bolts and air leaf bushings being worn out. Check the frog bracket that bolts to the frame, if it is worn bad on the inside from contact with the spring replace it.
The doors sagging is not the door sagging most likely, but rather the windshield frame and front of cab moving forward from pressure the cab bags at rear of sleeper put on the cab itself. The later ones used a set of bags under the cab as well as the sleeper. Again proper maintenance and up keep prolonged this problem.
No matter the name on the hood, a million miles with little to no maintenance will send any rig into destruction.SAR and spsauerland Thank this. -
Replaced an axle housing already. It is rare to find a used 404 housing that isn't cracked. Very common problem I am led to believe with the Pete air suspension. So I'm guessing either the ubolts loosen way too frequently or the bushings wear out way too fast on these. I was surprised when I started calling around to deal with this issue that everyone I talked to was like "oh that". Common knowledge i suppose.
I saw a thread on the cab door problems. Installing the additional air bags underneath with the part numbers and all. Great help that there. As for finding someone to true up the door jambs with a porta power may be another pain in the neck.
Thanks for all who contributed and or responded. -
A good welder can fix up those cracks.......on the truck too. Just make sure you air test when done to be sure there is no leaks.
wore out Thanks this. -
I have always fixed mine in place, the front housing of the 404 was bad to crack around the top rear at the center as well.
Thing about buying older exempt trucks is there are a lot of people in for these types of educations. Same as running one type of truck for years then updating there is a learning curve. Taking an older uncared for truck is just a bigger curve is allSAR Thanks this. -
Front axle housing was way bad. Cracks all over. Shop refused to weld it after they took it apart so I replaced it with a ds404 out of a freight shaker and had them weld on low air leaf supports from the old axle. Worked out well. The cracks were leaking oil wherever I stopped.
The rear is just damp with oil but no actual leaking on the ground. Should be able to weld that one.
This truck was a rolling death trap when I got it. The front end was so bad that I took it straight to peterbilt for an alignment knowing full well they wouldn't let me out the door without replacing everything they possibly could justify. In the end, it's new from the steering box to the pavement.took a lot of zeroes but at least I know it's going to go where I point it. These annual dot inspections are a joke. -
