What I am starting to notice is how much the pre 2003 models with out the EGR technology let alone emissions stuff are going up due to demand. As long as their is demand for the long hoods, there will be supply by the manufacturers.

A 389 with a dpf is going to be quite a bit heavier than a pre-emissions 379. My '98 IH 9300 with a midroof sleeper, 3406e, 13spd, tall 24 rubber on all aluminum wheels left the factory at 17,900lbs. If I remember right, similarly spec'd Petes I looked at were just a hair lighter, maybe by 400lbs or so. Somebody will probably correct me on that though.

How do the 379's and W900's turn as compared to a 2000 Classic? Assuming 244 WB and stock steering stops.

My first truck was a 2000 Classic and took a lot of distance to turn around! The WesternStar Lowmax I drove after turned much tighter. Never had to worry about touching the trailer with the fairings on the Classic!!

    Thanks,
    Bill

My 379 is a '95...long hood, 260' WB, 3406E, 15 speed, Eaton rears on PAL, 10-24.5 aluminum wheels, 63" raised roof sleeper, twin 150 gallon tanks, two access steps, factory roof fairing (now gone), Holland sliding 5th wheel, 16" tapered steel bumper, dual exhaust.

My door weight is 18,400#'s. Door weight is dry weight without fluids.

so with 300 gallons of fuel added (2400 lbs) at 8 lbs per gal. will bring you around 20,800 lbs plus oil and water, i guess those companys like millis transfer and some others use ant eaters T600 and that to stay at no more 19,500 lbs tractor wt for those heavy beer loads, they show this on there web site no tractor heavyer than that gee, OK, calling all drivers whats your tractor weight, T660, and prostar plus, should be 1,000 lbs lighter than the older prostar, and lets not forget the international 9900 and lonestar, wheres that w900 at i now that PUPPY is heavy

Millis used to use small bore engines to get their tractors lighter...3176's, C12's, etc. Don't know what they use nowadays. 9 speeds are also lighter so you see a lot of them in fleet trucks.

My empty weight...tractor and trailer can get down to 33,400 with my Utility insulated van. I'm pulling a lot of unneeded stuff off the truck to lighten up my tare weight. The lighter my tare the more I make. I usually run around on less than 1/2 tank of fuel unless I don't have to worry about the coops.

My old company has several new T660's with the Cummins ISM engines and they spec'd their trucks pretty light. They are around 16,500 with a full load of fuel. I've seen short hood 379's in the same weight range.

I don't know accual weight sorry. However my w900l is about 2 k heavier. Both with 550 cat. There are so many options to make them lighter. Example: lightweight break drums, all aluminum wheels, aluminum hubs, aluminum cross members and the weak little peteflex suspension! Very light setup on a 379. My 379 flat top with above specs. With tempte hopper weighed 26,700! Super light.

I will suggest people not to go by the weight printed on the door, if you want to be sure take the tractor to a scale, the printed weight is always a lot less than the actual weigh on every single truck that I have owned, in some cases by as much as a ton.

my present truck a T800H, I took the body off, so compared to a day cab tractor minus the fifth wheel with 5 gals of fuel just to move it back to put the dump body on it, took it to the scales around the corner, 19,600# that's with a drop axle that weights 1500#, and this is after replacing the original suspension with rear ends and all for Pete's low air tracks with 40k rears, the truck is double frame which ads about 500# to a single frame truck.

I'm a first time owner of a Peterbilt 379, and I love it. Before I had a T-660, nothing wrong with the KW, but the 379, seems to have a smoother ride, as for leg room, it's the same, I'm 6'3 210lbs, and I can drive the 379 all day and never get tired. But like they say each to their own. :biggrin_2551::biggrin_2551::biggrin_2551:
