Hey Everybody, Just wondering if anybody out there can give me some tips on how to get a 86 silver 8v92 Detroit up to about 550 hp or so? Factory rating is 475 on this engine. We had somebody tell us that it doesnt have original injectors? Whether this is true or not,I dont know. I do know it has 9G90 injectors in it currently. I'm the kind of guy who likes doing my own work when I can. And this truck is more of a toy for us than an actual work truck. Check out the attached picture. All comments are welcome! Just like any hotrodding, more fuel, more cam, better exhaust.
    Might try supplementing with propane?
    Beautiful truck, by the way!

That's a good looking old truck ya got there making me jealous.

Anyway I know a guy on youtube i watched, he put 9215 injectors in his 8v92, he said it should take it to the 600hp mark. That's what his book said it should be

Thanks guys!! We are definitely going to check out the injector options and also thinking about doing a mild turbo upgrade. Either way, We're definitely having fun with it!!

I would look toward the coast. Lots of boat applications ran higher horse power. Just copy that and or ask on boat forums.

90 injectors are stock in a 475 silver.

    More power = more fuel.

I put in super 100s injectors in my silver 475 back in the day. Dynoed 450 rwhp.

I'm thinking you would need a set of marine 115 injectors to get your 550 hp.
You'll also need a old school mechanic that knows the tricks to running the rack in those 2 strokes to fully get everything thing out of them.

So how did you come out on HP? I'm curious because I have a 1981 359 with stock injectors rated at 435 hp. Mines half for play and half for work. I would like to get a little more hp out of her nothing too crazy. By the way I am currently getting 6mpg hauling 1100-1200 bushels of corn to the ethanol plant. Its about a 60 mile trip through hills.
