Anyone have any advice about a small vacuum that's good at picking up pet hair? Doesn't have to plug into a DC outlet; there is a power inverter in the truck.

Will probably have to go to lowes or Home Depot and get the biggest portable shop vac that you can find that will fit in whatever doghouse or upper bunk space you may have available. But if it runs on AC power, check that the amperage won't exceed your inverter capacity.

I've not found the various hand vacs such as dust buster or dirt devil to have all that much suction power. But some of the commercial grade vacuums that may run on high capacity batteries are fairly effective.

I use one of those rechargeable Dysons. Not cheap, but works great and no bags.

I would do with that Dyson. I have and use a shop vac in my truck but it doesn't have the greatest suction for getting up hair. (I don't have pets in the truck)
It works better for sucking up water and such.

PetSmart or PetCo or maybe both? One of em has like an attachment thingy for a vacuum that has hard bristles that you can kind of work back and forth over a surface and loosens up the hair. I know this cuz we had a couch one time that was like Velcro when it comes to dog hair. Anywho point of that is I believe it's pretty universal, as far as attaching onto any vacuum hose. Then you can get a cheapie and let it rip. In my experience it's not the amount of suction power you have, cuz it's just hair after all, but it's gettin the hair up and out of the carpet/curtains/couch/recliner/clothes/every-frickin-thing

I think my biggest concern is dishing out a good chunk'o'change and it's not built to handle pet hair. I've read that filters can get clogged and whatnot and the vacuum doesn't suck anymore. (Sorry, couldn't resist the joke, lol.) I don't mind spending a little money, mind you, I'd just prefer to hear from someone that they've gotten good performance out of one kind or another.

A "pet hair pickup comb" may help as much as anything especially on carpet and fabrics.

Dirt Devil that had a belt-driven beater bar. It was AC powered snd worked great. Many "beater bar" vacuums now use a fan to drive the rotating brush. They don't work worth a darn. I have seen a blue copycat from China at Walmart. It costs about $30. Also, rubber gloves for washing dishes works very well sweeping up dog hair.

Dyson Hands down better than a shop vac for pet hair. Powered brush head just beats the shop vac.
