Hi, folks. I am a company driver (Walmart) but I have a problem. I have an old Mack straight truck broken down in Madison, WI that I need to get moved to Southern Indiana. I found a place to rent one of those 5th wheel wreckers but I guess I didn't realize renting a semi for personal use would be so difficult. Any ideas? I'm hoping to rent it in Chicago but i'm open to suggestions. Thanks.

I believe this would fall under the question to others why some one would buy a mack over a truck that is more common like a freightliner. When the Mack breaks down it will be very hard to get repairs. Tough headache driver.

Otherwise you will probably have to hire and expensive tow truck. If your a Walmart driver, why wont Walmart help you out?

Not going to happen, every truck rental place that does tractors requires you to have your own authority, insurance, and a huge deposit. When I rent Ryder trucks for breakdowns they run a $5,000 deposit on my credit card, then at the end of the week they charge another $5,000 deposit (assuming I keep it for more than 7 days) before refunding the difference of the first deposit minus actual rental charges. Just hire someone to move it, easier and cheaper in the long run, plus those rental 5th wheel tow hitches are not really designed for anything but slinging tractors from the rear, they do not have the reach to get to the frame of a box truck and to front tow it you will have to remove the bumper and use a piece of angle iron to support the hookup plus remove the driveshaft and plumb air.

Agreed 100%. You are taking on huge amount of risk to save, in reality, pennies.

I have a friend not far from that area who can transport it on step deck for you if it's 11ft tall or less. If it's over he has a zacklift that will get it done. PM me if you're interested and I'll give you his contact info
