I've been reading the apportioned tags now are based on your previous year's travel. Someone purchasing a new tag without a previous years travel is figured by some kind of an average.

I don't seem to be able to find with the actual cost of that would be. Does anyone know?

I cant tell you about PA, but NJ did the average when I got mine 2 months ago and I walked away paying $1,630 after it was all done. The excuse that I will be local and never drive in CA or AZ didnt work on the lady at the DMV lol

You should have been able to exclude any states you want to, but it doesn't really matter in the price of the tag. I know New Mexico would not tell me how much it would be, I had to go to Sante Fe to find out, the only thing they would tell me was they would not take a check or credit cad for payment, so I just took a bunch of cash, to register 2 trucks. and promptly got it stolen, along with all the authority paperwork and truck titles before we got out of town. lol
One full month later armed with another handful of cash and new paperwork and titles, finally got there and a sign on the door said they would not take cash either. lol
I told them they were running out of options. lol

My first year with the estimated average plated in PA I think was around $2,200. Once I was able to use my actual mileage and had all the OH miles on it, it came down steeply, closer to $1,800. PA is stupid expensive, same with fuel tax.

My Pa tag was apprx $1740 last year. I run Pa, Ohio, New York, West Va, did do a Chicago once. Oh and Michigan once in the same year. Majority of my miles are Pa & Ohio. Your cost may be slightly higher as they go by miles ran in all the states you supply miles for ( and you don't have miles to supply yet)the price of your base plate is divided up ( money) to those states. Sliced like a piece of pie. Hence the name apportion. Went to the filing cabinet. Yr 2016-17 $1666.24. Yr 2018-19 $1826 and 2019- 20 $1792.27. Out of 2019-20, Pa got 1,053.06, Ohio got $716.74, New York got $18.46, and West Va $2.01. Think Illinois and Mi will be on 2020- 21 as they use fiscal years miles.

My searching through the PADOT websites (endless digging, good lord!) came up with $2380 for a first year apportioned plate in PA.

Consider another state for your base plate. PA is stupid expensive and getting worse if those clowns in Harrisburg keep going.

PA is more expansive than NJ. Well... that is UNEBELIEVEABLE! Total insanity. I thought NJ was ALWAYS first lol

Nope. PA sucks for starting a new business. Which is why my base plate is gonna be in Indiana. Leasing on to a carrier, running their authority, does have its benefits for a single truck operation.
