Anyone have any info on pay rate for transporting new full size ford transit, ram promaster and sprinter vans. I am also interested in rates for transporting new 3/4 ton pickups from the major manufacturers as well. I have seen a ram promaster van hauled on a flatbed. Can they be hauled in a stepdeck conestoga? I'm hearing that Circle Logistics pays $1.00 a mile per vehicle.to move new Ford transit vans. Seems like it should pay more. Would United Road,ACC aka Jack Cooper or Reliable Carriers pay more? Information is much appreciated.

    Thx Robert

A buck a mile is typical for the vans. I don't know why you would think they should pay more. There are certain companies that have contracts with manufacturers and they are located all over the place.

Well, they should pay more because they take 2 spots on the truck. The low roofs are hauled in the same column as Super Duty's and expeditions, but those tall ones are ridiculous.

Exactly, It should be a percentage of destination fee. Even Waggoners paid percentage on hauling Nissan car rentals out of Canton,Ms. At least that was the case last time I spoke to one of their lease purchase guys.

You would lose your shirt with percentage of destination fee today, most auto manufacturers have equalized the destination fee regardless of the actual transportation method (rail, truck, or combination) and the distance from the shipping point, the destination fee is low, maybe $495 up to $895, so unless you were doing short haul you would be at well less than $1 per mile.

Should these vans pay more, I absolutely agree with Hammer, especially the high roof or long ones, they take up two or more positions on a truck, sometimes 3 is all you get on an entire 9 car unit and since I get more than $1 per mile per unit hauling off-lease and repo units I sure as heck want more than $1 per mile hauling brand new out of a railhead or port facility. Trouble is, the spot market for step deck and flat freight is around $2.25 per mile national average so most guys think they are doing good if they get 2 or three of these vans on their trailer since the total weight will be under 25k, no tarp, and easy to load/unload and still gross around $3 per mile for the trip.

They are way behind in KC with the Transits, I know there are multiple spot buy carriers in there trying to catch them up. I don't know what those rates are, but if any of them are anywhere near $1.00 per mile per unit, those carriers need their ##### kicked, considering how tight capacity is right now!

p.s. Just peeked on Central... all I can say is "WOW!"

The "other" issue is that now with Missouri hanging all the HM, AH's with overhang off the trailer you are down to 2 units in MOST cases IF you are going East, Of course you could run out of your way to Ia, or Ar. but that just adds (or should I say subtracts) from the pay per mile equation.

We have had ALL equipment parked since the 22nd and will reopen Monday, but I can tell you the last units I hauled out of Claycomo had a substantial rate drop, it made the decision to shut down for the Holiday's even easier.

Hammer and I had this discussion over a year ago, someone in charge of those vans high on the ladder needs to get their head out of their ### and there would be no issue, there is enough "CORRECT" autohaul equipment out there to do that job without resorting to steps, vans, enclosed and flats and having to 3rd party the delivery, it's ridiculous.

I really can't remember the last time I have seen such a huge disconnect in this industry between Shipper and Transporter, way too many people that just push paper and don't have the equipment with their fingers in the pie!!!

I sure am glad we stick with mostly used. I charge 2 spots for the hugely oversize or they sit. So far, I've been paid.....

After Jack posted the CD rate I took a look, two BIG vans to almost anywhere are paying about 65 cpm, so 1.30 pm to run that truck, and you will not get anything else on it, also, let's not forget the vans are PROBABLY not going to the same location and could be a 100 mile or more split, just keeps getting better doesn't it?
