When I was researching truck driving, I ran across a neat little calculator that asked you how many days you would be running per week and how much you'd make per mile. Then it took all of your daily expenses for meals and such and gave you a final amount of what you can expect to make and how many miles you'd have to run to make that amount. For the life of me, I can't find that calculator any more. It was a web-based form, not an application. It was at a web site with a lot of information about truck driving and directed at newbies. Does anyone know what calculator I'm referring to?

    JustSonny Thanks this.

    Here's my calculator.

I need to earn at least $52k or better per year. I am willing to work 5.5 days a week. I know from experience in the Northeast I can average 390 miles per day.

Beep boop bop tap tap tap-- 5.5X390 equals 2145 miles.
$1000/2145 equals 46.6 cents per mile. $1000/2400 equals 41.66 cents per mile.
In a nut shell to drive in the north east I need to earn 42-47 cents per mile with a company averaging 2145-2400 miles.

Hmm... I wrote this then checked out that calculator you found. Gotta say, that is exactly how I'd figure out my needs. Nice find! Hope someone could link this tool to this site.

Yeah, don't knock it until you try it!

Just remember that the numbers your getting there are before state and federal taxes, Medicare, and social security deductions and any other elective dedictions. The caclculator does provide a spot for health insurance, which is set to $12 per week by default. I find that kind of low; $35/week for individual and $75/week for family is more like what I have seen with most companies.

I love that calculator! So easy to punch in worse case scenarios and wish for scenarios. Very cool. Have it bookmarked so thanks for the link!
