I'd go with what the DMV person said. Pretty straight forward from your DMV; "only a written test."
-
Why argue with the DMV? You should only need a driving test if you didn't already have a class B. As you have an A it should be written only (like tanker)
-
well the issue is I had a dps worker lady there say its a driving test and written, my company said its not everyone but this dps lady said it written do I just ask for her boss or what if I end up at her window.

Check your CDL manual, it will tell you the requirements.

I looked in to getting a "P" endorsement in Texas A couple of years ago. Back when I got my CDL twenty years ago, everything was just a written test. I got everything except passenger.
When I checked into it a couple of years ago, not only was it a written and road test, but if you showed up in a school bus, you got a school bus endorsement that was only good for school buses. -
Passenger test in Texas in a written endorsement, it is just a paper/computer test you add on to your class A/B. Only thing that requires a 2nd driving test is your School Bus endorsement. (Has to be in a fully functioning bus, with an arm and working yellow/red flashers) I have a Class A in Texas with haz/pass/tanker/schoolbus.

Had you called DPS it would have been straighforward... Passenger is an endorsement you add to an existing CDL, school bus is a permit you add to a CDL awaiting a 2nd road test. School bus also requires a 40hr safety class every 3 years if you want to drive for a district, endorsement stays active but you can't legally drive a school bus. Most people I know with a Pass endorsement just run a Class B

I just went thru this process . You have to take the written test and road test. Makes no sense at all . I took it in a school bus but didn't test as a school bus...just passenger bus.
