Alright, so it's a big cam IV. It's currently just a 320hp (no idea what the CPL is), it's had a rebuild kit through it very recently. I'm thinking of swapping out the (presumably) 17:1 pistons for some 14:1, bigger injectors and a bigger turbo (no idea which one, so any suggestion would be good). I'm obviously going to have to have the pump tuned to suit and maybe run some bigger pump gears.

Where can I source these parts?

can I swap the pistons in chassis?

    anything else I'll need?

I'd like a healthy 550hp-650, anything over that is a bonus.

Without the CPL or engine serial number your shooting in the dark.

Really? Are they all THAT different? It's a 1991 model truck and that's it's original engine.

Yes they are, cummins has more parts combinations for specific engines than any other engine company.

If its the original engine for the truck, call a dealership and have them run the vin number, they can give you the engine serial number and the cpl number.

I thought all Cummins needed was a dime with a hole the size of a BB drilled in it and stick that in the return line.:biggrin_2559:

No CPL needed if he's gonna change pistons and set timing anyway. High comp pistons are ok for 650 hp if you want to save money, just dont set too much advance. Holset HT 60 with 32 housing if you can find it or old skool HT4B with 26 housing. Biggest injector tips from Cummins and that's it.

And maybe a box of head bolts, and possibly a spare crank.
