Just got off checking some of my loadboard accounts, looks like there is lots of partial freight in my area. All going one direction, but different states. Loads are in Iowa going towards GA, KY, AL, TN and decent amount going to Florida. So I was thinking maybe I can get a partial load from IA, to KY and then also set up another partial load from IA to FL at the same time.

IA to KY 676 miles at $1.66a mile. ($1122.16) And IA to FL 1490 miles at $2.05 a mile ( 3054.50) = $4176.66 total all in one trip.

Is loading up two loads for two different company's even legal?

This way my driver could make a little more money on a trip instead of fuel taking most of it.

What do you guys think possible? have you ever done something like this?

Partials are the way to make $$$... it's called LTL. Unless you have an 'exclusive use' deal on a load it's up to the carrier to fill the trailer not the shipper.

Do a little research... those big guys like Yellow/Roadway, ABF, etc. are ALL LTL carriers...

My son has his flatbed headed to the east coast right now from Wisconsin with four partials and about $7K in revenue to the truck.

    denis3721 Thanks this.

very nice, thanks for the info. So thats what LTL means! I never really understood up until now. I'll do more research and maybe try to set up some partial loads for my drivers. Thanx for the reply Krooser!

I used to run California with my flat ONLY if I could line up at least $4K in revenue to offset the cheap rates coming out of the west.

Many times I had $7K on the deck outbound and backhauled for 99 cpm... sad.

Yeah, just make sure "20ft" is really "20ft". If you commit to 3 or 4 picks, but the last pick won't fit, you got a problem.
