I've been in a non-trucking job for the last 38 years... 34 with one company... and it's time to retire.. well in about five years... at which point I'd be 61. I'd like to work part time... and have always been interested in OTR trucking. Part time and OTR... driving for a week or two, then off for a week or two. Any jobs like that out there? Any need for fill in folks? Maybe last minute fill in due to illness or other emergency? I want to get paid, but I'd have retirement income... so I can afford the down time.
No CDL... I'd go to school.
Part Time OTR?

Roehl has a couple of programs that may work for you; 7 on/7 off and 14 on/7 off may be available, depending on where you live.

Don't you want to enjoy your retirement?

Thanks all.. and DriveToBroker.. I hear you. I've been reading this forum and listening to trucker radio shows like crazy. I hear the frustrations that many have. I have 3 to 5 more years to read up and think on this.

But i might also look for some sort of line haul/terminal to terminal gig in that situation -- which i dont know a whole lot about -- but probably a lot less messing around, if you don't mind going to the same place all the time.sidecars Thanks this. -
Irrelevant, but I see many driving jobs posted up in Canada that are 2 weeks out, 1 week home, and often wonder why these are hard to find in the US but seem to be the norm up north.
The Roehl and Schneider p/t jobs highly depend on your location. I saw a job posted in Albany NY last week that advertised for a p/t CDL driver. They were looking for 2 to 3 day weekends, OTR, paid $250.00 per day. Not bad.... but required 1 year exp. I forgot the name of the co. and it's no longer advertised.
Keep in mind that when you drive p/t, you will be splitting seat w/ other drivers. Some people have a problem w/ that.sidecars Thanks this. -
Thanks Lelou... splitting seat means sharing a truck?
-
Yes. Most places, 7/7 means you share a truck with one other person. 14/7 means you share two trucks with three people.
sidecars Thanks this.
