Can anyone give some good ideas for parking the truck while home in Charlotte, NC? Western part of University area (between 77 and 85) in particular. My husband is not able to park the truck near our house, so we need to find another option. Thanks for any help!!!

We are running into the same problem. We have permission to park at a residence, but the road is apparently "a privately owned road by the residents along said road" and one of them is complaining that he "doesn't want that semi going down HIS portion of said road". Checked with county and sure enough, it's a private road. So we are checking into parking at the tollroad exit where many truckers park. We were told by his company that we are responsible for the load and any thing that could go wrong with it in an unsecured location. I asked what the definition of a secured location was, and was told that only OCs were considered secure. Anyone else had this problem? We have another option, but I don't want to go that route because it has had MANY break-ins and vandalism within the last year. Can you really park at your house? In a residential neighborhood? The trailer would fit (barely) but we could at least keep an eye on it! Any suggestiions would be appreciated and be safe out there...

i would say in a residential area would be no trucks allowed. you would have to see what your local codes are. when i worked for swift back in '97,i would stop by my mobilehome park and park the rig on the street next to park.one of the residents came out and told me it was illegal and i said that there was no sign saying such. so after a few times of his bs. i stopped at sherriff station and sure enough, he was rite. so i just ask the owner of tire shop 1/4 mile away if i could park in his empty lot behind his shop.he ok,d it. i would also hate to be liable for a load if it got stolen or vehicles got vandalized,so if i were you,i would park wherew the company said too.good luck .sorry for long post lol
roshea Thanks this. -
Thanks, dptrucker. If I could choose, I would park at the OC. Everything Hubby needs right there-free showers and laundry, decent meals at a decent price, workout and tv room that is dark and cool enough to fall asleep in (I know from experience). Yeah, that would be my first choice if it weren't two hours away. Am I being too much of a baby when I tell you I don't want to drive that far to pick him up every weekend? Possibly staying for hours on end if he is delayed for some reason? (Been there and done that, too). The last time I was there with my boys (8 and 10) we waited 7 hours. I don't know if they thought all of you guys are single and drive up there and leave your cars in the parkiing lot instead of a one car family that has all your week's stuff in the vehicle and stay waiting until they make up their minds as to what they want you to do....don't get me wrong, we were comfortable in the OC, but I don't know of anyone that wants to stay for a long period of time. I am sorry if I come across as whining-please for give me. We are newbies, but I would really like to find somewhere closer to home and I will check into our local codes per your advice. I know it would come down to us being liable, but it is soooo tempting since the three locations we have permission to park at might not be considered the secure location of an OC, but all three are less than 5 minutes away. I also question the security of the OC. While there, yes, you have to check in/out at the gate, and all the security cameras everywhere, but why were there so many personal vehicles with multiple windows broken out?Did all of them forget their keys? The trailers aren't parked with the tractors, which would make it easier to keep an eye on a whole field of them that you have to get through @#^*%$ to get to. Hasn't someone come up with a better solution? Is there really a lot of problems parking anywhere? Isn't there something besides a Kingpin that will help secure the load? Why don't you guys just back up to one another so no one can get access to the locks/bolts? Well, we'll figure something out. Appreciate the input-now I'm the one sorry about such a long post!

Hey driver that pilot is not only to full at any given time to find a spot but the manager is not a very nice guy.Your best bet is the wilco north on 85 in kanapolis. They let drivers drop trls with permision if i remember correct and then u can bobtail home. Another option is on huntersville rd hwy 16 north outta Charlotte on the right hand side of the road about 3 miles out of town is Long Creek Park a large industrial complex with many business you might be able to park there with permission.
