I got a parking ticket, back in November, at a rest stop in Texas. I was heading for the house and was about 45 minutes out, when another driver called me on the CB and told me I had a tail light out. I pulled into the next safe place, which was this rest stop. Trucks were already parked on the side on the entrance. I figured the actual truck parking area was packed, so I stopped and fixed my light as quickly as possible. It took me about five minutes. I was already back in the truck, engine running, lights on and my turn signal on to leave. This Texas Trooper pulls in front of me and blocked me in. He wrote me a ticket. I explained to him the situation and he said he didn't care. Well, I opted to take it to court, today was the pretrial. I presented my case the prosecuting attorney and he dismissed the ticket. I am a happy camper. No point to this story, I'm just happy!

Good for you ! He was out of line ! if you stop to make a repair in a safe area such as a rest area then you should not receive a ticket ! The Idiots they hire as Troopers is real scary some times. I know I know they are not all like that , but the few give the many a bad name

Glad your case got thrown out.
Law dogs are like umpires-sometimes they make good calls and sometimes bad. Some days you'll get a seasoned veteran who understands the term "Officer discretion" and others, like a still "Wet behind the ear" rookie who wants to arrest and challenge everyone and everything in site with his new found authority. Other times, there will be those who carry on over their personal problems (Finances, argument with their spouse etc) on duty with them.
Just remember, the streets are not a court of law. "Yes sir, no sir, 3 bags full sir" goes a lot further than getting into a pissing contest with any of them. Kill em with kindness often times leaves them no where to go, no matter how cranky they are. If you get the ticket, take it and have your day in court, get your side and say if front of a judge. Extend the court the same courtesy along with the judge, dress appropriately (Flippy flops and cut offs reserved for Key West) and often times, if you articulate your side well enough, this will be the end result.
Now, if the judge is having a bad day.......7-UP, NavigatorWife, nikmirbre and 1 other person Thank this. -

This day and age, anything hurts. -
I pulled into a service area on the NJTP, and it was full. I went 20 miles to the next one, and it was full also. I was out of hours at that point, so I parked on the left side of the ramp exiting the parking area - well off the road, and behind the guard rail even. Lots of other trucks parked on the other side of the ramp, despite the no parking signs. No signs on my side of the ramp.
Went to sleep, got up the next morning - all is good. Walked back to use the restroom and when I came back, there was a parking ticket on my truck (!). I considered fighting it, but IIRC the fine was $40 and I could pay it online. Would have cost me a lot more to come back and contest it, so I just paid it.terrylamar Thanks this. -
