Back on the farm, I’ve never had issues parking tractors on grass. Getting things unstuck were not issues either.

I’ve been looking for secure truck parking near my sister. I found a mini storage location that allows truck storage. But, while there’s enough space to turn around on gravel; they require the trucks to back the trailers onto grass.

The truck and it’s drives would still be on gravel; is there any risks for the empty trailer or it getting stuck?

I’ve not inspected the site; my sister drives local; she’s looked at it and believes it’s acceptable.

(usually) if you make darn sure your drives are on solid ground, they'll pull an empty trailer out of anything. But get your drives on that grass after its been raining a lot, or its sand or loose deep gravel under the drives, all bets are off.

Well, that depends. I'd never park a loaded combination on grass, empty, I see no problem, as long as it hasn't rained a foot lately. I hauled a lot of cut hay out of fields, and loaded, it doesn't take much to sink.

You could get a 100 responses telling you you will be OK, and then get stuck. It's something that you need to take a look at for yourself. Yes generally if you keep your drives on the gravel and your trailer is empty and in the grass you will be OK but if it's a mud pit and your trailer sinks to the axles obviously you would be stuck

Trucks already park in that lot? It should be packed down solid enough for you not to have any issues.

This may sound stupid but I put a couple sheets of 3/4 plywood down on the ground and park the tandems on that. It distributes that weight across a larger area. If it rains it helps keep the ground drier under the tires. Not practical if you are using the spot once but if you plan on making it a frequent place it may be a good thing to do.
Always lock your inter-axle when pulling out of the spot for more traction.

Actually, this might be the solution. I’ve used plywood for similar purposes in the past. If I get concerned about the weather, it’s good to have options; and I wouldn’t want to rut up their grass.

How many trucks are parking or have parked there before? Good chance it’s packed down enough for an empty. But the suggestion about putting the tandems on some plywood is also a good idea.
