2005 Peterbilt 379. The parking brakes on the tractor will not prevent the truck from rolling away. The brakes are in adjustment and the brake shoes and brake drums are in compliance. Is it possible for the spring to weaken with age preventing the shoe from being applied firmly to the drum when the parking brake is set?
I got DOT'd yesterday and they did not find any problems with the brakes on the truck. On the axle where the parking brakes are located, the left push rod travel was 1/2 inch and the right was 3/4 of an inch, both were in compliance.
Parking brakes will not hold.

You most likely have broken springs in one or both parking brake chambers, not applying full spring force to hold the truck.

Texas_incognito Thanks this. -
I have a similar issue with a bus with DD3 chambers. My issue, the brakes appear to be adjusted but, I have no park/service/emergency function. The mechanic was stumped.

Might want to check the S cam bushings along with the cans.

You need to make sure when you set the brakes the.air is released might have a bad relay valve or quick release valve not letting the air from the emergency side of the cans
Sheldon#1 Thanks this. -
I had the same problem on a truck and never did figure it out. The crazy thing was it had the best feeling brakes of any truck I had ever driven it was a 90 379 dump truck but the parking brakes wouldn't hold good at all.

Ditto: the broken Maxi spring
Keep the cage bolt hole covers on that will keep them clean and last longer. -
Springs broke in the pots, I had 3 out of 4 gone. Brakes worked fine, parking didn't.
