This was a hard red line for us. We wanted to be trained together and not spend the night apart with other people. Here are the two Megas that would fit your bill of paying you while you attend training that they provide and return for your work for nine months to a year.

Schneider – they will put you through their training at no upfront cost to you. Pay for your hotel room, pay you $80 a day, provide two meals a day. When the training is complete, you will both be put into a truck with a trainer to drive for at least two weeks.

Werner- Same as Schnieder , except for the pay may be different per day. When you both complete their training course, you will go with separate trainers, but meet up at the same hotel every night… As long as everything goes OK.

We went with a local company and paid for our own training

After your training is over--as I understand it--you're on the hook to drive for Schneider afterwards--for 9 months minimum.

    With Werner--I'm not sure...but it's probably longer.

The pay with Werner is probably a bit better...if I had to guess.

CR England does the same. Trucks set up for 3 people, but stay in hotel on layovers. Wife & husband get private room together.

This Forum thread may also be of interest to you, as well...it's a couple from the St Augustine area currently being trained as a team with AMX Trucking....over in Ashford, AL...they seem to be having a good time :p:

    Our Journey Trucking- AMX

FYI--AMX now has their own CDL school--that's partly why this couple is there. Will very likely drive for AMX, after school.

I see their rigs quite a bit over here--equipment generally looks good.

Judging by their activity levels--AMX seems to be doing well.

Thank you for the all the info!! It's overwhelming to pick a school especially when we need training paid for and will be tied to that company for probably a year,!!

Note also...that if you can get onboard with....and do you training over at DOT Transportation....the pay there is likely to be MUCH BETTER than either at Schneider or Werner.

The problem with DOT Transportation--they can be pretty picky. It's known as a good place to work--so they get A LOT of applications; thus, many people are of course turned away.

But that doesn't mean you shouldn't give them a try.

You could very easily spend your entire driving careers at DOT.

You did see where DOT's website helps you find CDL-qualified schools near you, right?

Before Quest was sold to KLLM, the company had a policy of not wanting drivers to park at casinos. Drivers generally ignored that though. I'm certain KLLM doen't have a silly policy like that. Common to see Quest trucks parked at the casinos in Las Vegas; the ones that had truck parking, such as The Orleans. I know someone thats worked at The Orleans for years and he said there's no fee for truck parking and truckers are welcome and long as they park as they should and don't block the lot.
