EVERY CDL School I know about will arrange for you to borrow the money for school and repay over 1-2 years. Half of the OTR companies hiring newbies offer Tuition Reimbursement in addition to the wages you earn by driving. Say your school loan payment is $250/mo. The trucking company TR may pay $200/mo. You only have to come up with the difference. You have to make the full repayment according to the terms of the loan but you don't have to pay for CDL school by one check at the start.

As for your dog, I would try the following instead of paying lots of money for long-term boarding. You'll likely need 1-3 months of boarding. Contact a pet rescue group and ask about leaving your best friend with one of the primary people in the group for that period. Those people are usually the best pet parents and lots of experience with all personality types (dogs and owners). You may be able to explain your situation and pay a lot less than the local daily rate for pet boarding. Make sure the pet is microchipped, you have a written contract, lots of pictures of the animal and people involved, etc. If you won't microchip your pet, then I can't help you.

Also, under no circumstance even consider sneaking your pet into a company truck unless you have written approval from the trucking company. If you get caught sneaking a pet into a truck without approval you will be fired on the spot and have a hard time getting another driving job. Companies consider unauthorized pets the same as unauthorized passengers or hitchhikers. You will get caught quickly if you try to sneak a pet into a truck without authorization, even if your truck doesn't have a driver-facing camera. I carried my pet with me for 2-3 years. I love pets. I don't understand why most people don't have a pet..

When I got my CDL I was able to do a 10 weekend training period. Trained Saturday and Sunday and off during the week to work. I went to Alliance Tractor Trailer Training in Fletcher, NC (Western NC). I don't know if they are still in business but it was good training IMO.
