Looking for advice in general, but mainly on how to manage everything. I'd also like to know about the taxes and fees I'd pay. I know about IFTA and the Federal taxes, but what else is there? Will I pay heavy highway vehicle use tax?
What apps are there for recording fuel cost, estimating taxes, recording write offs, and anything else I'd need. What apps do y'all recommend and for what?
How do I go about getting a prepass for tolls and scales? What's that cost?
Also, what is your current preventative maintenance schedule? I'm really wanting to take care of my truck, so I'd like to know how often to do fluid changes, inspect bushings and suspension parts in detail, de-grease and clean the truck, ect.
Edit : Forgot to ask, but what diagnostics tools are the best bang for buck to keep me rolling? If the truck I pick has no apu, I'd like to be able to make it idle and tune my speed limiter. That and having the ability to force regen would be great.
Owner Ops, how do you manage everything?

I learned everything old school “101”. Back in the day’s, there was no internet to asked questions on how to run a company. Todays, individuals that have absolutely no idea on how to start and run a business, want all the 411 handed down a a silver platter by using the internet. Good thing is TTR has a “search” box on top that has endless 411 to help individuals that have no idea what to do. You should try it. Goodluck.

A lot of required permits will come when you for instance get insurance. They will want other permit numbers.

If you’re doing a lease purchase then the company will take care of IFTA and licensing. Prepass will also have to be tied to their authority. Since you’re leasing the truck from them they should also be paying the HVUT since it’s their truck. And if they’re saying it’s all on you in addition to paying for their equipment thru a lease purchase then you’re really getting the shaft.

Not to bash you OP but after getting really good advice from those who know, it seems you are still going ahead with this idea of lease purchasing which will likely end in failure.

I have a feeling the company you are joining is going to suck you dry. If you had answers to all your questions, you would not move forward with this. I get you messed up, but there are other careers. If you really love trucking so much and want no other. Leave the field, learn the business by doing your research, save a 100k or more and start with a position of strength. Consider…. Company knows your position and is going to exploit. They will do so well. You’re gonna fix up their truck and pay the bills. When you go dry, they stick another guy in the seat. This is their plan. They are not trying to help you become a successful business man. I’m warning you, they are a wolf in sheep’s clothing.

Search, call or email all those different entities and ask what they need.
It's easy to get set up with dot, mc, ucr, twic, scac, mcs-150, ifta. This is a short list to begin with.
If you don't know what they represent. You are not prepared to own or lease a truck.
Slow down. Learn this year driving for someone else. Or try some other job.
Most people on this site can tell you aren't educated enough to get a lease purchase truck.
Most here are certain you will be drained of every penny you have, and my thousands you don't have.
Good luckConstant Learner and Beupsoon96 Thank this.
