My total expense is $3500 a month. My income after fuel cost is $8500. I haul other company's trailer in California. I met a dude the other day and he said, I am not making enough. He told me I should get my own trailer. Nonetheless, I rented a reefer in the past, and I made $2100 per week after California to Washinton and back to California. The $2100 is after fuel cost. Since my reefer rent was $1400 per month, I did not save as much as I am saving now. What do you guys think? Do my numbers look alright, or am I really not making enough? I also have a paid off rig that I have a driver on. I save around $2800 on that unit.

Not even close your income should be closer to 12500 after fuel !
BackwoodsGA, Slick Tiff, Fin and 2 others Thank this. -
Plus the fact just power unit only you need to put away st least 1800 a month for maintenance and replacement and anothe 250 a month for incidental expense! Let alone taxes plates and insurance!
Letsgetreal Thanks this. -
Step one. Stop hauling cheap freight.
Step two. Reevaluate your lanes to comply with step one.Slick Tiff, Oldironfan and Letsgetreal Thank this. -
8500 is not nearly enough considering your fixed expense is 3500 and you also have no truck note. So basicly what you are saying is you have about 60,000 per year ((8500-3500)×12) to pay for insurance, maintenance, and to draw your payroll? Let alone when the day comes your truck decides it's retirement day?
rank Thanks this. -
my goals are greater than 20k per month gross revenue and greater than 8000 net after all expenses accounting for 12 month average maintenance expenses all fixed and variable expenses excluding paying myself a wage.
after you add 5k for a drivers wage leaves only 3k for company profits/re-investment this is why these are my minimum goals, i also have no loans to my company so if you figure 2500 loan payment would leave very little profit margin. -
And I have found when most O/O speak of their expenses off the cuff like that, they often leave a few figures out of the calculation. Like taxes are just one thing that comes to mind. How about personal insurance? Maintenance? Depreciation? I am just saying. -
Dude, There are reefer guys here grossing 8k a week. You're hauling freight WAY to cheaply and/or someone is really taking advantage of you.
I gross $6000+ a months as a company driver with full Bennie's you're way to close to me, to have your business running like that.Slick Tiff and Oldironfan Thank this. -
The $3500 includes insurance, taxes, and plates. I feel like I am working hard and the money isn't all that great. -
Dude yout way under i do 5to 6k gross a week on 2600 - 3k miles not killing myself wheels don't roll for less than 2avg
