I was just curious if there are places to park besides truck stops and rest areas.
For example if one wanted to just find a quiet spot out on a backroad somewhere.

There are wide spots all over the place that are used for parking, you just need to make sure it's a safe place to park and a legal place to park or you take a chance in being woken up and given a ticket. Usually if you are well off the road way they will leave you alone.

Park wherever you think you can fit. No rule saying you need to be in a ts or rest area. If next to a highway though try and be at least 10 feet or more from the shoulder so other trucks won't have to move over thinking you're broke down.

There are two bad situations you need to avoid parking in the middle of nowhere. Being awakened by bad guys and Policemen. The bad guys will steal your fuel and tarps. The Policemen will steal your money and your dignity.
Truckstops are always a better choice. -

I rarely sleep in big truck stops, I try to find a nice quiet dark hole like smaller mom and pop places, an abandoned lot, or an on ramp.. In some states though its illegal to park on the ramps so you need to make sure that the state your in doesn't have a law on it...

When parking on the side of a back road or on ramp beware of soft shoulder. If it's cloudy and chance of rain, avoid parking on said shoulder. I parked on a hard shoulder that turned soft in the rain. Almost got ugly.

That sounds good. I don't mind a truck stop every now and then but I like my peace and quiet. I'm a country boy at heart and being able to crack a window and hear a cricket or two is highly preferred over a bunch of racket. I'm sure there will be times when it cannot be avoided.
From what I am reading, it sounds like a lot of receivers don't want you sleeping in their lots in spite of the fact that you might be delivering a load to them. -
Rest areas and on ramps are nicer imo. Truck stops fill up quickly and are usually full of supertruckers that just want to talk crap and holler out for lot lizards. I'll only stop at a truck stop to fuel, eat or sleep if it's early enough to find a spot. Basically anytime after 6-7 I'm not attempting to go to a truck stop.

I find that many shippers/recievers are a good place....often quiet (if they are not a 24/7 opperation), and unless in a rundown urban area, reasonably safe.
I have spent a few days behind shopping centers (around the docks), and found it safe, quiet and having good access to the stores (when open). Just park in an inconspisous location, and I think you will likely be leftalone....
Just be sure to take your trash with you....a few litterbugs can make a mess, and get all future truckers kicked out of a location.Reverend Blair, BigJohn54 and Ranger70 Thank this.
