Sounds like it's calling for a new compressor. Since there is refrigerant involved, there will be no self-fix.
Any time the system is opened, the filter needs to be replaced (about $160), the system tested for leaks, vacuumed and refilled.
My last compressor did last 3 years. -
Most likely its coming out the high side blow off due to high pressure. A lot of things could cause it, starting at eng fan not coming on with A/C to cool the condensor, assuming of course its set up that way. Lack of info makes it hard to tell. Condensor/radiator is full of dirt grass etc not letting air flow. Usually comes with eng heating up but stranger things happen.
Drier plugged up internal not letting freon circulate, orafice tube plugged up or just plain over filled.
Without gauges on it to read the pressures its real hard to say what is causing It. I would check the condensor first. Sometimes a good mechanic is money well spent -
Yeah when it would spray out freon it was from back of ac compressor, then we would spray water in radiator area and it wouldn't spray freon out until we stopped watering and it got hot again.

You have an airflow problem. Start looking for a high pressure switch etc. Sounds like the fan isn't coming on with A/C pressure

This should be a pressure switch in the high side line. Also don't just replace it check for power in with A/C on. If you have a manual fan switch turn it on finish the trip that way. Fix it at home. I rather be cool and loose a little millage

Heres the switches I located, I traced the high pressure port line and there wasnt a switch on it. Just a switch on receiver and on low side port near front of truck.
