Dump truck work seems to be slow this year in my area. I have an opportunity to go work in Arizona on a long project lasting 6 months at least. My question is do I need MC number?
    I currently have DOT & CA# .
What other sort of paperwork do I need to work in Arizona . Thank you all.

    NightWind and 77fib77 Thank this.

Depends on the commodity, fill/stone/bank run no, waste/haz yes

You’re going to need to change your operating authority to interstate, you’ll need a MC number, IFTA license and IRP apportioned plates.

    dirthaller and NightWind Thank this.

Probably need apportioned tag, MC number, change to interstate authority, see what the insurance requirements are for the company(ies) that you'll be hauling for. I'd also take into consideration the cost of living there as well as other expenses. Don't forget fuel tax and IFTA sticker

Back in 2002, I went from an intrastate carrier (Utah) to an interstate carrier without getting authority. I explained to the FMCSA that I wasn’t going to be hauling dirt across state lines but I was going to drive unladen across state lines to haul aggregate within the state that I was traveling to. They didn’t require authority….just kept my old USDOT number and became an interstate carrier. I didn’t even have to go through the new entrant program in 2009 when I did finally get my authority.
ETA: I did have to set up an IRP account in 2002

    Dera209 Thanks this.

depends on what is being hauled, majority of it is exempt commodity, no reason to have cargo for a $400 load of stone dust….

pretty sure you need MC for paving across lines though, a lot of guys Will also get it to have it Incase a specific job pops up

    dirthaller Thanks this.

Temporary lease agreements with the contractor help skirt this as well. The contractor that I worked for before I became an owner operator had the credentials and almost none of their owner operators had authority.

Yeah I believe asphalt is not an exempt commodity
