Any here used one of these?
I had a code or two pop up on me last week and was wishing I had one with me.
I made it in to the shop just fine, and I’m confident it’s simply a bad sensor, but was fearing a derate all the way back through 7 states. I don’t like driving all tensed like that LOL. Was gonna buy one before I go back out. It says you can get it out of derate, initiate forced regen, and reset codes.

I’m looking for some opinions before I drop $800.

Yes bought one a while back , I use the plug in module not the one that connects to phone . Works great and saved me a few tow bills . I have learned that these trucks will throw ghost codes from time to time and with out going to a shop I was able to reset the code , do a force regen and change out sensors when needed.

I have the one for a Volvo without the subscription. It's a great tool to have, but you will want to understand more than just basics of the emissions system in order to get the most out of it. The ability to force a regen is it's strongest point, instead of needing to run to the dealer.

It doesn't always clear derates related to NOx, so you have to perform a regen to get out of derate, which you sometimes get locked out of and need to use the tool to force it. If you can't clear it with a regen, you determine where the fault is and repair it, then force another regen.

The soot gauge you can reset most of the time, as well as the derate associated with it. If you don't fix the underlying problem, then it will continue to derate shortly after you start driving again. It is better to continue running with a derate until your next stop rather than stop and reset a bunch of times. The only time I've been unable to reset the soot gauge with the tool is when the soot level gets stuck at number 2 and doesn't increase or decrease no matter what you do. The only solution in that instance is to request a regen from the stalk or button and allow it to complete. Forcing a regen with the tool won't decrease the soot level on the dash in that case.

I have one that connects to my phone. I’ve used it twice to clear codes. The monitoring it can do for the emissions system is also nice to have on hand for troubleshooting should the need arise.

You can usually find used ones for your application on eBay for half the price of new.

For the same price, you could get a Nexiq genuine communication adapter set. What engine and truck build do you have?
