Hey guys. I have about two years of experience with one year being otr. I’ve been local for a little bit now, and I want to put all my worldly possessions in a storage unit and hit the road with my dog. Im single with no kids so I’ve got nothing tying me down.
I’ve got all my endorsements, and I am unrestricted on my license. I will disclaim that I’ve only ever been put in a manual tractor a small handful of times, and I’ve only driven in fair weather on flat roads with a 10-speed. I’m very open to learning, and I promise I’m very quick to pick things up.
my experience is going to be with 53’ and doubles. I have been driving with FedEx Ground for basically all of my time. I got my OTR training with Covenant and actually had a pretty experienced salty old ex-army guy who showed me the ropes.
I know y’all hate FedEx, but I promise I’m not one of the many who take their 30 on the fuel isle lol.
I’m currently 22, with a clean MVR, criminal history, and I’m not on any illicit substance. I don’t smoke. I just run long hard hours and chase those dollars
As far as equipment goes, I really would prefer to not be in a freightliner or an international. Been there done that. Not a fan. Y’all will hate on it, but I like the new Volvos. I’ve been in a 23 for about 8 months now and I haven’t had any issues. I like the comfort, the bed and the storage a lot. Plus the setup on the 860 for the table and couch looks really really nice. That would be my first choice. However this is at the end of the day a preference. I do want to be comfortable though, as I’ll be calling that truck home for the indefinite future.
I’m very interested in getting into flatbed. I’d need some load securement training of course, but I’m ready and very willing to learn.
ultimately I am trying to hit that $1600 weekly minimum. So a decent CPM and some consistent miles are kinda important. Miles fluctuate, #### happens. I’ve been around long enough that I understand, but sitting around inadvertently completing a reset waiting for every load isn’t gonna cut it.
What recommendations do y’all have for some companies that would take me? If you have any other questions I’ll gladly answer, and will 100% make sure whoever helps me out gets that ultra rare driver referral. Thanks in advance!

You don't want Wylie unless you like being lied to...I refer to them as EW We-lie. Plus, the new deal here at SPD they want a chunk of change to bring a dog onboard...current drivers are grandfathered in, but new drivers have to cough up a bunch of money. I spoke to one of our drivers (SPD) who just came back from a medical leave and they were even making him come up with the money to bring his dog back out with him. Smokey Point (SPD) is partnered with Wylie, and some of us speculate that we will eventually either be merged into Wylie, or be a division of Wylie before it is all said and done.
lual, Bud A. and Thedude251 Thank this. -
I spoke with a recruiter for Melton, and it just doesn’t sound like the money is there. $0.50cpm with an average of 2000. No real detention, layover or breakdown pay either. Really trying to be in that $1600 weekly minimum rangeChinatown Thanks this. -
