I've got two customers who want me to go there, one a pick up and one a delivery, both Portland area.
I run out to Seattle on 90 now and then but never hit 80/84 and I've never driven my truck into Oregon.
For my Portland pick up I'll probably run load board freight TO Seattle from the east on 90 and then drop in to Oregon, then hit 84 east towards SLC to head back east.
On the delivery to Portland from the east I'll do the reverse, SLC to Portland on 84 and then to up to Seattle to catch something headed back east. I'm thinking this because I have pretty good luck getting stuff out of Seattle area.
@Scooterjones, @SteveScott or others please correct me if this isn't the best idea.
So, basic questions are these: About what will I pay without an account or whatever to enter from the east or north, do my business in Portland and get out? I am guessing I just stop at the port of entry and purchase a permit like NM?

So from the Idaho border at the Snake River on 84 I'm looking at $80 to get over to Portland and the same back. If I come in from Vancouver and back it's pretty negligible looks like.
Maybe I'm a little old fashioned but it blows my mind that unless there is a big stop sign on the interstate that you can drive your truck across the state line and not be legal due to lack of a permit, if youre' saying it's all online and no port of entry to buy one. -

I thought you had to put up a bond. So you just purchase a permit if you go there or through each time?

Gotcha Scooter, and thanks. I remember asking you about this a year or so ago but that run never happened. Believe it or not it's a lot easier to ask dumb questions on a forum than it is to navigate some state's websites or get questions answered.......and that was before Covid. Now it's #### near impossible sometimes.
I have an email in to get an ODOT CCD pin or whatever.RunningAces, D.Tibbitt, Scooter Jones and 1 other person Thank this. -

You should have your permit before you enter Oregon. The port of entry on I84 As you come from Idaho is not a 24/7 operation.
Coming south on I5 from Washington you can park and wait for the POE to open and issue a permit. That may have changed since the china virus.86scotty Thanks this.
