Anybody ever use a independent 3rd party that goes to and inspects used trucks for you before you buy them? I've been thinking about doing this on the side in addition to side work when it comes up in the greater Houston area. Just not sure if anyone would be interested, or if its even a common thing. I think if nothing else it might add peace of mind to potential out of state buyers. Maybe give a bargaining chip to the buyer.
I'm not talking about a quick speedco inspection, more like a very in-depth look into every system on the truck. Throw the A/C gauges on it. Hook a scan tool up to check out any codes. Check 5th wheel slack. Check clutch linkage play and adjustment. Check slack in pins and bushings. Point out quick fixes that were made. Note all the leaks, chaffed lines, loose bolts, missing brackets etc. All the little things that can cause havoc down the road. Something much more detailed than a regular PM inspection, and maybe make use of tools some guys don't have.
Would anybody pay to have a Certified Mechanic go out and look over a truck like that before you bought it? If so whats it worth to you? If not why?
Thanks!

I plan on paying a 3rd party mechanic to check everything out after a DYNO is ran when I purchase myused truck down the line

It'd be worth every penny if said inspection company actually did all of that. I'd figure about $250 to $300 would be worth it, maybe more.

I'll add that in 16 years as an owner operator the largest problem I've found isn't finding good paying work, getting paid or anything that so many talk about on this forum. Rather I have had more trouble finding qualified trustworthy reliable competent mechanics to work on my truck. Dealerships, small independent shops, road service mechanics doesn't matter, finding good ones is very important.

Thanks for the input, I would like to put a detailed report together within 24 to 48 hours adter its done. Pictures and everything. Something similar to a home inspection you would have done before getting a mortgage.

You should include having a Dyno, full ECM dump, and oil sample done with your inspection to be a true value to potential clients. If you do not have the resources to include those services you could probably contact with a local company that does.

Why pay someone money to take your truck to a local shop? -
They could be offered as optional additions to what he proposed doing in is post and for out of area clints would be of value.
If I was looking at a truck out of my area I know that would be a service I would want over just one doing what the OP is proposing.tarheelsfan105, brian991219 and kimbosa Thank this.
