I'm looking at a 2009 Great Dane 48x102 steel frame, aluminum deck combo flat this weekend. I am curious if anybody here has one? I have not pulled this brand of flat before.
How do they compare to East, Wilson or Fontaine?
Thoughts?
Opinions on Great Dane flats?

I have an 06 and have had almost no problems. I purchased it in 08, it was only used for 9 mos before I got it. It still has most of the original lights. I have replaced 2 wheel seals and 1 bearing. I haul steel 90% of the time and a fair amount of that is coils. Good trailers in my opinion. I have not pulled an East or Wilson but they are very comparable to the Fontain. And head and shoulders above the transcrack trailers.
2CAN Thanks this. -
Normally quite a bit heavier than a Fountain.
Mercer Transportation uses and sells great Danes. They went from Fountain to great danes because of the better warrenty approx. 10 years ago.
I have a Fountain step and love it. Weighs in at 10,4002CAN Thanks this. -
I've got one of those mercer great danes. It is what it is man. A cheap study trailer that gets the job done. Just don't plan on winning any beauty contest. Like flightline said, it's a bit heavy. If you need to scale 50k, keep shopping. Also make sure it has the coil package, even if you don't ever hall coils, it really strengthens a trailer up.

why do people bash on Transcraft ?? IMO they are great reliable trailer with a great Hendrickson suspension, Just Cheap Paint.
Great Dane Freedom LT are awesome strong Trailer, And they look good, A bit Heavy but gets the Job Done. Make sure it has all 8 aluminum wheels.
I compare them More to a dorsey , you dont see them much2CAN Thanks this. -

Actually going to the dealer in the morning, well I guess its morning already to check out the Freedom XP by Great Dane
From the website:

Weighing in at 8,200 lbs equipped with aluminum wheels, the Freedom XP is nearly 1,000 lbs less than a comparable combination steel/aluminum trailer. The Freedom XP maximizes payload capacity being able to withstand 60,000-lb loads concentrated in four feet and up to 120,000 lbs of uniform distributed loads.

Well Flightline... My trip to Great Dane was a waste of time. I think I just caught them at a bad time(right after lunch). I will leave it at that!
But, the day was not a total waste. I did get to a Freightliner and Peterbilt dealer. Before I set out, I thought I knew what I wanted, and was just looking for confirmation. After returning home I have turned 180 degrees. Going to do a bit more homework and go back in a few weeks and get some solid numbers and go from there. -
