I'm a new driver and my company has been pushing Open Road insurance on me. Apparently, these guys go to bat for you if you get a ticket. They send their lawyers to court for you so you don't even need to take a day off or, in some cases, if you're out of town and can't make it to court to fight the ticket. I've also been told that many people have avoided a ticket just because johnny law knows that you'll, by default, be fighting the ticket with the Open Road guys at your back.
My question is: Is this service worth $32 per month out of my paycheck? Has anyone had an experience with these guys?
Thanks in advance. You guys are the greatest !
Open Road Insurance--good thing?

If you drive how your suppose to drive you don't have to worry about a ticket. Its a waste of money.

No lawyer is going to ever "appear for you" anywhere. At best, some clerk MAY receive a phone call from some guy in his underwear while at home "making big money" doing a "phone from home job". Maybe they will have something resembling success for you, maybe they won't but it won't matter because they've got your money and they've guaranteed you nothing except to make an attempt to make the same phone call you could do yourself.
Sure there is the odd jurisdiction where a real "lawyer representative" (member) of the "Open Road" group resides and practices law but the odds of you getting a ticket in that jurisdiction? Slim to none. -
I forgot the name of the company that I had but I had that insurance on my license or for my license since I had it I did have one ticket they did handle it but it took forever I would say it would be cheaper just to find a lawyer in that state before you leave it if you do happen to get a ticket and just pay the $70 once or the hundred twenty dollars once instead of paying them 32x12 just my two cents

You are buying insurance. For about $400 a year, if you get a ticket, Open Road will hire a local attorney in the area you got your ticket to make a court appearance for you. Your company may be pushing you to get this insurance because most truckers can't manage their money well enough to get through a single week on the road with out a com check, and will never have the money... a few hundred dollars.... to simply hire an attorney each time they get a ticket.
I have a policy of always hiring an attorney and fighting every ticket... so far I have only gotten one in a truck, but that's my policy even in my 4 wheeler. I got busted for speeding in Elko Nevada in my truck, but my attorney got the case dismissed because on the date of the trial the cop was away at training, and the prosecutor asked for a continuance. My attorney told the judge she was ready for trial that day... I wasn't there, didn't need to be... The prosecutor dropped the charge because he had no witness. These things do happen rarely.
Having an attorney fight my ticket saved me once but I know how to manage my money, so I don't feel the need to carry this type of insurance.... I paid the attorney $300 out of my pocket. It would save your company from time to time if all their drivers fought every ticket.... especially since the drivers are paying for this insurance and not the company. -
Maybe you can ask them for a current list of "member attorneys" so you can see how "broad and expansive" their presence is and so you can make a few random calls to validate it's authenticity and accuracy, and see how they respond. If the resulting list and it's geographic makeup and coverage makes sense to you, then that's great. But something tells me you're not going to see a list for several reasons.

Wow, I've yet to hear something positive about getting this "insurance". I think you guys are all right though, and it confirms my suspicions after being put in a room and given the hard sell I felt like I just left an Amway seminar.
I'm going to pass on these guys. Thanks to everyone for your fast and thoughtful replies. You guys just saved me $32 per month which will pay for almost all of my mochas....LoL.
Be safe out there !bullhaulerswife Thanks this. -
Just save your money and hire your own lawyer when you need it. There's a reason these guys are in business and that's because they bring more in than they pay out.

There is another one, a lady in the Gary IN Petro is hawking it. I don't remember the name and never let her talk at me about it. I think it was like $3 a day. Overheard he talking while waiting for my scale ticket.
that is $1095 a year!!!! That will pay off a lot of tickets. Maybe even a leo... hehehehe
