I'm doing orientation and a guy came in with Open Road drivers plan. Anyone hear about it? Do you have it and if so how do you like it?
Basically supposed to help you out with lawyer on your side in case you get a ticket.

Is cheaper to just not get a ticket. I've been driving for 12 years and never have had a ticket in a big truck.
-
I'd suggest going with it your first year or two.

You'd be better off putting $10 a week in a savings account for an attorney. I recently got a ticket in Ohio. Contacted an attorney who said he could probably have it dismissed for court costs of ~$90. His fee to represent me would have been $150. However, I called the city prosecutor's office, admitted I was speeding, explained that it was my first ticket and I was willing to pay the fine, but I wanted to keep the 2 points of my license so I wouldn't get in trouble at work. They let me take a $50 online defensive driving class, pay $94 in court costs and dismissed the case leaving me with a clean driving record.

I quickly looked at the website, nowhere did I see the cost!
How much are they charging, I mean bilking, participants?
There is a lady at the TA in Gary IN selling a plan for only "about $3 a day"!
Math-ing that:
$3x30 = $90
$90x12 = $1080!
I have been driving only three years and no tickets so far. That is $3240 out of pocket for nothing!
How bad of a driver are you? Do you really need it?

It's ~$30/month. Here's what they offer, some discounts on hotels/tires, etc.

Basically guy talked us into it, since tickets can be very expensive. I believe he said I'm covered in my personal vehicle as well, as well as my spouse (if I'm married) I can drop it later on if I choose to, its not mandatory. -
I'm decent driver, however I'm new to trucking. With so many regulations I can make mistake and get ticketed.
-
Even with those programs you are still liable for any fines or court costs incurred. All they pay for is the attorney's fees. In my case that was only $150. Put your 30 bucks a month in a savings account. Then at the end of the year if you haven't had a ticket you've got more than a stack of cancelled checks.
bergy Thanks this. -
Tickets in your car count against you too.
