"One Year Of Experience" is not one year???

So I finally got my total, one, entire year of driving experience in. I can verify that I was operating a tractor trailer, in the months of X, X and X for 12 total months and this is within the past two years.

I went to a VERY shoddy hiring agency in a bad part of town... This might not mean anything and everyone may be this way BUT...

I was told that if I drove for 3 months that they can only count two. If I drove for 5, they can only count 4, etc.

"October to November and November to December = 2 months verifiable"

They said this is how they calculate "One year of verifiable experience" and claimed everyone does it this way.

I was told some time back by some one, some where (maybe I just imagined it?) that as long as I drove a tractor trailer, professionally during that month that it counts towards my experience. I'm not even ripping anyone off and all 12 of the months I'm counting were pretty much filled completely (or close too it) with full time employment driving OTR.

So all these local jobs asking for "12 months verifiable experience" are going to turn down my 12 months of driving experience because it's not 14, or 15 or whatever? Am I missing something or is this truly what the world has come to?

    Thanks for any help.

Why go to a hiring agency? Go straight to the employer and fill out an app with your experience...which can be verified...right?

Well this agency posts all over Criagslist and Career Builder. I agree, I should go strait to the employer but now I'm all worried the employers will do the same thing...

How long did you work for your last employer? Hire date to resignation/termination date.

I don't remember the exact start date, it was early October and quite December 30th. Current employer I began March 2nd and am still with them. Good folks, but OTR. They know I'm looking for a local job, I will leave them with a smile and a hug.

So you have close to 6 months OTR experience and were unemployed for 2 months since 10/2013...right?

Put where you live in your profile...general area. From the looks of it you might need to suck it up and stick with a job more than 4 months...like get a solid year with someone. Just my opinion.
