I am a driver that wants to become an owner operator, I'm not sure should I go with a newer model truck or go with a older truck pre-admission. I keep hearing the newer trucks are always breaking down and I'm always hearing the older trucks are better I just want to know is there any truth to that.

In my experience, go brand new.
I have nice equipment but I would still be in the same spot with brand new equipment with equipment maintenance that has had to go into it.Puppage Thanks this. -
Most do say, 'Buy an Older Truck' but you have to think. Eventually an Older truck gets super old! And for some Carriers (if you sign on as a Broker not running your own authority) they might limit how old the Truck can be.
Bean Jr., BoxCarKidd and Puppage Thank this. -

If you're going newer go as new as you can find and afford.

Go old if you like or can wrench ...or know what is wrench

Cant go old if you want to run Commiefornia.
if I was buying another truck I’d definitely get an older one . not just ore ELD
I’d get pre computer. I’d get one with a mechanical injection pump and zero computers.
yes it will use more fuel. the computers save fuel , and an older truck will be less aerodynamic.
But the total operating costs will work out about the same since you won’t have any computer related breakdowns and repairs.
but it’s hard to finance older trucks , and hard to finance the repairs you will need to make to the truck before you start driving it. -

Myself,
I'd rather deal with old truck problems than new truck problems. Just my .02Bean Jr., Roger McG and Rubber duck kw Thank this.
