Lest we forget: http://www.flickr.com/photos/aaron_anderer/5714226308/ Another one Pilot killed off.
The sign for the Martha Inn in George, WA is still there, but that's about all that's left. -
Joetro Thanks this.

Another treasure I remember is Carls Corner just south of Dallas a bit on I35E. Willie Nelson aquired it and turned it into Willies Place only to lose it a few years later when Petro bought it. -
I seem to remember a Chism's Truckstop in ALABAMA ( any relation??) between Montgomery & Dothn AL. I stopped there for coffee several times had some nice neon on that sign too , If I remember.....
-
Chism had several tuck stops. Two brothers, Doyle Chism and Brit Chism. Brit operated Brit Chism's truck stop at Shannon, MS, a few miles south of Tupelo on US 45 Alt.
Doyle operated Chism's Truck Stop at Prattville, AL. Right side eastbound on US82 between Montgomery and Dothan.
Other good stops in that era and in that area:
Jack's Truck Stop, Jack Ogelsby owner, Phillips 66, East of Columbus MS scales, drove for Campbell 66 at nite.
The Guinea Truck Stop nearer to Dothan. That may be where you saw some kind of neon. Big Pea Fowl in neon up on top of the building.
Bill Kiefers Truclk stop at US82 and US 45 junction west of Columbus, MS.
Shorts Shell Truck Stop. split area of US 82 and 49 west of Greenwood, MS.
Red Davis Shell on US 82, southside of US82, ND to Miller Petroluem Transporters termimnal then.
In FL: Shacks#19 at Chiefland, FL, just before the Suwanee River scales.
In KY: Art's and Dot's Truck Stop, right side of "US31W, south of Horse Cave, KY. Food only as I recall and you pulled off and up in front to park. Get out and
look down at the top of the trucks trailer following you going by.
The second set of TTT (Tuscon Trucker Terminal) is a pic as I remember it. North side of US80, westbound. Level pull off and in, and gravel.
US80 was 4 lane divided then. Pic in first set may be it as remodeled/relocated, but a high berm is to left with guard rail on top.Was not there in 1957.
Edit.. Looked back and got memory jogged. Doyles was at Ozark and I cound not recall the other locations from memory.
But us J.T. Garrard's bull haulers bought a lot of gas from every one of them. 78 yrs old now, remember when gas rolled from 27.9 to 30 cents. Outrageous. -
I recall one time period they let the DOT come on their parking lot checking out the truck drivers. After that took place they lost much business from many of us cross country truck drivers.
