Oil pressure started jumping around, it would fall to 20 or even close to 0, then sometimes go all the way to 100. Shutdown once. I was able to get it to Speedco and have pm. Didn't fix it. Broke down on off ramp now, roadsquad coming, I have a sensor waiting at Cummins. I hope that fixes it. Anything else it could be ?

I had one go out. i dissconnected it and used paperclip to jump the wire. i didn't have the jumping pressure reading though....

####, wish I knew you could jump it. I figured I would need correct ohm resistor to do it that way. Road Squad stopped and is heading to pick up sensor now.

While waiting for the guy I managed to start it and ran fine for 10 minutes or so. Then oil pressure gauge dropped to 0, alarm, and low oil pressure light came on. Then gauge wrapped out. Engine shutdown light came on but then went out. Still running fine but low oil pressure is blinking and oil pressure gauge is wrapped out. Not sure if I should try to take the truck to shop or fix here. Guess I'll see what the tech says when he gets back. Got a feeling if I try driving to the shop it will shut down again.

could very well be a ground wire. or any of the 2 wires that are at the plug in that goes to sensor may be partly broke, frayed e.t.c. this would also cause your symptoms

Curious as to the status with the oil pres problem.
Making sure if it's the gauge or an actual oil pressure drop/fluctuation is vital.
If you can get by a hardware or supply store & get a screw-in dial gauge, then temporarily install that in an oil pressure port somewhere, even the sending unit port. Fire engine up & monitor it for a while to see your actual oil pressure. Engines aren't cheap, as ya know! Good luck Danny!

It was the oil pressure sensor (or sending unit, not sure correct term). On my truck it is on the drivers side of engine sort of behind secondary fuel filter. There is two sensors there, one is two wire (I believe that one is coolant). The oil pressure sensor is three wires and very tricky clip to remove I might add.

Sensor was only $40, and it only took the tech 5 minutes to replace once he had a deep well socket and a swivel with extension. However, since he had to drive to Cummins to pick up the part, and since the good people at Cummins decided to take a 1/2 hour break when he got there, and since RoadSquad does not put a #### socket set on their truck and he had to return to the shop to get the correct tool, the Road Squad bill wound up being $680.00. gheez.

I was in a hurry, had to get a load of steel off first thing to make pickup appointment for an important load. In hindsight I should have let the #### truck sit on the ramp and catch a cab to Cummins and go buy a dang socket cheaper than having the tech come out. But I'm glad he got me going, @ 2 a.m., after I called in @ 3 p.m.....

Oh well, still better than Cummins idea. When I first called them the service guy said, "What you'll need to do is have the truck towed in, we might be able to start on it next week." My reply ? "That's not going to happen"

Well that stinks but I guess it could have been mechanically worse.

What stinks is I cleaned a couple other sensors recently, Windsmith suggested on a truck this age it would be a good idea to go ahead and replace all sensors. I kind of blew him off because I didn't want to spend the money. I reckon would have been cheaper to replace them all than deal with roadside breakdown and bill ! lol.

you're right could have been much worse.
