So had a hub oil seal brake and get oil all over the brake drum.. they won't replace the drum just cleaned it...But not even that well IMO... The way I am reading the regulations is there only has to be evidence of contamination by oil or grease on friction surface of drum or friction material the shoes were replaced. There was still enough oil or great that I can feel it and there is enough to show on figer that it was still present.

You done left the shop? Get some brake cleaner and clean as much as you can or take it back to the shop and tell them to do it right.

buddyd157 and Loose Leaf Thank this.

They should have to pay you for lost down time and take it out of the mechanics pay and maybe the next break job will be do right?

I get 75 a day breakdown pay

Drums will clean fine,no reason to replace them for an oil seal leaking.
Grubby, MJ1657 and Toomanybikes Thank this. -
Honestly I'd have just sprayed a little degreaser and washed it off in the washbay. Willing to bet that is all the shop is going to do.
PhilKenSebben, Chinatown and Lepton1 Thank this. -
Clean the drum, replace the shoes, along with the leaking seal and any other necessary gaskets. Top off the fluid and ship it on down the road.

I had some grease come out of the cam bearing on the shoe end and grease has gotten on the shoe. What's the "evidence" mentioned above about? Will DOT make me replace the shoes even though I've removed everything from the drum and cleaned it up?

Grubby, Lepton1 and JimmyWells Thank this.
