Ok Dave I'm here lol and will once a again at your request retell my story of heartbreak and defeat....now that I'm not busy stealing oil .
Where to start? ..well first of all OP Dave is the luckiest sob I know and was probably born with a horseshoe up his arse.. I wasn't so lucky.
My 2013 isx started using oil at about the 540k mark and got progressively worse until I had it overhauled at 684k at which point it was going thru about a gallon every 1000 miles and it was also pouring oil out the bellhousing seals .
I had studied the carbon packing issue to death so I didn't bother trying any overhaul in jug or other snake oil and of course Cummins told me sorry we sold ya a pos wel do better next time .
I did try some brand switches and some Lucas and shortening up my drain intervals but this only increased my engines lust for oil and i started knocking on doors at truckstops begging for oil .
But seriously...other than the oil consumption it ran well and even got good fuel Mileage.
Have you changed the crankcase breather ?
Mine was nasty and it helped a little .
The last year before the overhaul I just quit changing the oil and spun on a new filter when the oil pressure would start to drop off a little .
I was there for the teardown which revealed a very clean engine along with .
A bad cam and rollers .
All 6 liners were polished in various spots .
The rings were carbon packed .
    All the bearings looked excellent.
The overhaul kit came with updated 3 ring cylinder packs and it's been issue free since other than a cam issue that Cummins admitted fault for .

Times 3 for the Wally World 80/90 gear lube. I’m on my 4th engine oil change since I bought my ISX 15 and the oil consumption at practically stopped. I’m at 6500 miles into the last oil changed and it has not used 1 drop. Before, it would of taken 1 gallon by now and getting pretty close for the 2nd one. In total, my ISX 15 was going thru 2 gallons of oil between 10-12,000 miles, that’s when I do my service. With that being said, you can try 2 gallons of gear lube. You have absolutely nothing to lose.

Edit:, I buy my oil from a local distributor, and use only 1 gallon of 80/90 gear lube. Fleetguard filters. Red-i grease for the “nipples”….. :p

Why are you putting oil in when it’s only down 2 quarts?
Wait until it gets to the 1 gallon mark.
I’ve had trucks where the first gallon disappears pretty quickly and then stays on the low mark for a lot more miles.
