The teflon lined hose between the air compressor and drier started leaking air. I changed it. I saw oil in the line at the drier side fitting. 4000 miles later after installing the new hose, I checked and saw oil-but didn't seem like much. How much life can I expect to get out of the compressor? How much oil should I be worried about? It was installed 580,000 miles ago. It's an Alliance brand (Freightliner's aftermarket brand) on a S60 Detroit.
OIL COMING FROM AIR COMPRESSOR

I see some people run them a couple years like that. It is really hard on the dryers. Then I see oil slobbering out the leveling valves and such. Then they usually caved and bought a compressor.
If you are in this truck for the long run replace it at your earliest convenience. Air bags, brake diaphragms and such are rubber. Oil on those will surely cost you more than the compressor in the long run. Went on a service call for one that the dryer would no longer pass enough air for the truck to function. That would have paid for a compressor and not been broke down.Big Road Skateboard, flood, black_dog106 and 3 others Thank this. -
Try draining your air tanks and see if oil is coming out of them. When I had S60 that when I noticed it. I'm not a repair guy but Detroit Diesel told me it was time to replace it before it keep pushing more oil into the air lines. They had to clean all the oil out of the system so I wish I did it sooner. 580,000 or around the is what I was told all you can expect of them. I guess they were not the best design or something about it having two pistons if I remember was no so good.

I don’t know how much oil you’re talking about. I replaced my compressor at about 1.7 mil miles. It was pushing som oil. New one does too. Not as much, but a bit. Bendix claims a Little is ok, pretty much normal, and that air brake system is made to tolerate a little. I’m not so sure I agree with that, but think a little bit is normal. Even for a new one, unfortunately. The new air dryer dessicant filters are supposed to catch oil, along with moisture. Not sure about yours. Just what I’ve read here, and online.

I buy new air comp. never rebuilt ones all from a rebuilt ones that pumped more oil out into tank after putting them on than the ones I just took off?

I am a firm believer in new over rebuilt, especially with electrical items. I have had poor luck with rebuilt electrical pieces.
The local KW parts desk laughed at me for insisting on new instead of rebuilt yellow water pump.Rideandrepair Thanks this. -
OP
Remember the name Bendix don't settle for any other name brands.. -
I appreciated any help less than 3 months changed 2 air compressors and still pushing oil replaced air dryer bypass the intake hose still pushing oil it’s Detroit 12.7 pre egr and the 2 air compressors was rebuilt from freightliner

Is it coming from the compressor or is it picking it up on the inlet side? Been a while but I seem to recall those Detroits picked up the inlet air from the intake but I can't remember if it was pre or post turbo.
Rideandrepair and Big Road Skateboard Thank this.
