This is a very unhappy place to work and for a lot of really valid reasons. It is the second worst trucking company I have experienced, but only because Satan himself owns a hundred trucks in Ohio.
I attended orentation, but after two days of being attacked by the new safety with his hit and run pedantic banter, I punched out.
He is a super trucker who has never driven west of Denver or East of Ohio. I call that a local delivery boy. He is a miserable person to be around, and I am sure a hostile workplace lawsuit would be good for the company. Everyone seemed nervous, scared, and unhappy like hostages.
They don't value a driver enough to even put a $16.75 a month prepass in the old short cab truck or glider kit. Instead, written navigation, you have to copy and use an atlas.
Safety demands you use an atlas instead of a trucker GPS. It does not occur to him that a Rand McNally GPS IS THE RAND MCNALLY ATLAS. He almost speaks one language properly and hopefully someday overcomes his unreasonable fear of electricity. Camry boy needs to find a job he enjoys or perhaps ask his doctor if Prozak is right for him.
Pay is low, 2200 to 2500 miles a week. A california burger flipper might make more. Freight is dangerous to haul, 20 straps on the coils of steel, and you only get $25.00 to secure. Difficult customers to deal with, and super short hauls. Time-consuming paperwork, and you need to get a paper receipt for fuel.
Old glider kits and freighliners with high miles. They pay zip code to zip code short miles, and you drive the routes they assign. Lots of secondaries.
Dash cam in and out, following radar to automatically hit the brakes when it feels like it... Like driving a swift truck for people who hate you and want you dead.
9k deductable medical that is expensive and pointless and a contract agreement that allows them to lower your pay if they feel like it or take money out of your bank account. You no longer have my permission to access my bank account!
A receptionist with the soft skills of a large angty reptile such as a kimono dragon, pouring hate into your soul with her witch doctor eyes at every glance. And naturally all the doors are locked but unfortunately from the inside.
There is a culture of animosity toward drivers. If you just need to be abused, this is going to be your Mecca.
I could not fall asleep at night due to the stress and smoke filled hotel assigned to acclimate me to hell. I paid to get myself home because life is too short to be that unhappy.

I'm a little confused, they load steel coils in van trailers? That's a little more than crazy!
Lonesome Thanks this. -
$17.65 * 78 = $1,376.70 * 12 = $16,520.40.
Not exactly cheap, but if they mainly run regional, how will they make up for the lost $16.5k per year? It won't be in fuel or time savings.
Carrier studies have proven that unless you are a 48-state carrier, the pre-pass doesn't pay for itself. And if you are afraid of the weigh stations, that reflects more upon you than the company. -
Nobody like a scale house. NOT afraid of em either, but I think of it like a gas station restroom. I'd rather do my business at home but will use it if I have to.Thrasher28, Bud A. and Lonesome Thank this.
