I've been with Bruce Oakley Trucking for almost a year and a half. I drove company trucks for sixteen years and took the plunge into the owner operator world with Oakley. From the word go they have told me the truth and treated me like an equal. The money is great and I have never had any trouble getting home, not once.

When I came to Landstar 10+ months ago, I had it narrowed down to Bruce Oakley or Landstar. Do you pull a hopper bottom or end dump?

I've been running a semi-dedicated run since November, but most of my time her has been regional and OTR. I'm home on weekends unless I choose to stay out.

Looking at the rates on their own site how do you survive on that ?

It's easy. If you can't survive on $2.40 per mile loaded, almost $2 per mile empty, big insurance discounts and fuel discounts then you need to work on coming up with a budget.

I'm a company end dump driver, @jr29 do those rates fluctuate throughout the year? I've always thought Oakley was a good setup, rates in dumps right now are really good, but I've also seen them tank over the years. It seems to me it's a win win for both the company and the O/O, when the rates are good Oakley is making money, but they also provide the trailer and the maintenance, when rates dip, as long as they don't change the rate to the O/O then it's actually better for the driver and Oakley is absorbing the losses. I'm hesitant to every make the jump to O/O, but if I did they would be a first choice. Maybe we'll cross paths one of these days, I was running that coal out of P-Cola a few weeks ago, saw a few Oakley trucks, would always see you guys up at Huron in Anniston. Safe travels.
