I live near Portland and see lots of containers running back and forth to Seattle and such. All appear to be O/O's.

I am wondering if there are plenty of loads available and if the pay is reasonable? Not sure who to talk to. I know I will need a TWIC card.

Do these loads usually have their own trailer? I also see a lot of these that it seems that they are heavy (special trailers and some trucks with extra axles).

    Any insight?

I know in S.Ca, the port of L.A./Long Beach, container work doesn't pay jack. It's all broker dispatch, junk trucks, 100% O/O's. Long days, lots of idle time waiting to get in/out of the port. You might net $20 grand a year. :smt066

I have not seen any junk trucks or drivers with turbans up here. I hear there might be a Romanian or 2 though.

Spoke with an OO I was referred to he has 12 years a Con Global and he mentioned Mitchell Bros, WCT, and Roadlink.

    OO lease deals with perks.

just check the phone book for container haulers in that area. I will suspect that they pay on a percentage basis, generally 70 to 75% of what they charge the broker/steamship line for the haul. But there is a lot of sit and wait when dealing direct with the ports.

I work the ports for a service oriented shipper and do well at it. All the MB trucks I've seen in the ports are company trucks. I wouldn't have anything to do with any of the companies mentioned. The good paying can work requires a four axle tractor. The boys hauling ag products from eastern Wa. and Idaho do pretty good. If you haven't seen any junk trucks you haven't been looking close enough.

    Thanks ND
I have not been looking in the port, I was commenting on the trucks I saw running back and forth to SeaTac from Portland (as I was doing the same).
I had an inkling that dragging heavy stuff might be a good niche to shoot for.

Who's brokering the Ag loads? PM me who you're hired out to if you care to (especially if there's work).

Any idea when the Kali air quality stuff is going to reach up here? Should I be thinking 05 or newer motor? Is there an easy way to ID those motors by eyeball?

After telling you all the MB trucks I see in the ports are company trucks I've seen 3 MB O/Os in the last two days.

Gary Amoth out of Twin Falls, Id. runs a lot og ag out of Id. Drivers are pretty tight lipped but I spect it is for McClain. GTL enterprises are running onions heavy now out of Pasco and Prosser and they run a lot of hay the rest of the year. There are alot of smaller outfits out of Ellensburg hauling directly for shippers. Also out of Ephrata and Mattawa.

It looks like my job is going to end this week They can't get parts until next March. Looks to be busy next year but I had hoped to be retired by then. Guiiess I'll get an extra deer this fall, a few extra turkeys, plant another row of winter potatoes and settle in for the winter.

As far as the junk trucks.....
L.A. harbor no longer uses O/O's....Nice little agreement between the mayor and the Teamsters......all in the name of CARB and Green......
Long Beach harbor still uses O/O's....
IIRC...trucks must be all 2004 or newer with DPF's......

Swift is running some rigs running on LPG out of L.B. Harbor.....

    Native Dancer Thanks this.

Mitchell Bros does not have a DAC in this forum, wonder why?

Are the drivers happy or too broke for an internet connection?
