So I'm over near Rochester trying to go west on the thruway (I-90), and there is a truck ban of some kind according to the info signs. Which is weird, 'cause it's not even snowing or anything.

The only info I can find on the ban is a bunch of news stories. Nothing official from NY DOT. According to the news, the banned routes are
"New York State Thruway from Exit 46 (Rochester I-390) to the Pennsylvania border
    as well as
    Interstate 190,
    Interstate 290,
    State Route 400,
    U.S. Route 219 from Peters Road to Interstate 90;
and State Route 5 from State Route 179 to I-190."

Any ideas on alternative routes? I guess I could just roll down US-20 all the way to PA as long as it's a 13'6 truck route the whole way - is it? Or maybe 390 to I-86?

Seems like somebody forgot to rescind the ban. Still officially in effect.

I know, weird, right? You can't just close a highway to trucks just because it's winter and it might in theory snow at some point...

Where did you get that info about the ban still being in effect? Did you find an official website?

Could run down 390 to 86..

I think it will be lifted late this evening or early morning. They're probably scraping it off still. The radar has shown the snow quit earlier today, and Google is showing the thruway as mostly green around lunch time today. If you can hold off til morning... I would.

NY511 website still has the ban in effect

You may not want to try and go secondary routes as they are probably not cleaned off to safely drive on, and besides that, if you read the news stories, they are handing out heavy fines for a truck that drives while the ban is in place.

Cause by the looks of things you have to travel on one of the banned roads to get to 20. I second the notion of sitting and waiting.

Yeah, I'm shut down at a service plaza anyway, hopefully tomorrow morning they'll open it up. Forecast for Buffalo is cold af but otherwise sunny and inoffensive.

Some people way smarter than me are saying that this cold is also part of Global Warming. Pretty much ANY weather event that is going on now-a-days, is being enhanced due to GW. And will continue to get worse in the coming years.

It's more like weather 2.0, beta version. Gonna be buggy and unpredictable and crash a lot for a while until they release a stable version.
