The one time I was there it was an absolute monsoon rain. Everyone was good about letting the guys that had to tarp stay inside until they were done.

Broker said my load had to be tarped but the less then friendly scale house lady insisted that my load was not to be tarped.

    I didn't argue!

I dont think Ive ever met a nice scalehouse lady at a steel plant. I just dont understand why they have to be so miserable. I hate hauling steel, mainly because of the hassles at the plants, glad I dont haul much

It seems like the more policies a place has the worse the attitude.

nucor around here is pretty pleasant attitude.

they will jump your arse though. if you don't have your hard hat on.

you get a 1 hour window. so if you can't make it you have to be rescheduled.

we have 3 plants around here. the other 2 are basically drop and hook i think. the day drivers get them loads. we just haul em away.

i'm glad i don't haul em anymore. every load is tarped unless it's rebar. even the structural beams. and those things will rip your tarps to shreds before you get out of the state.

not to mention they only pay slightly better then wood.

If you live near Nucor forget trucking and try to get hired at the steel mill! Do you know what those guys make?

Wish they were that way in Norfolk. Appointment time didn't mean anything for me. Got there 1/2 hour before my appointment (2 P.M.) got out at 4:57. I was not happy about that at all. One guy had been there for over 6 hours:biggrin_25513:. TMC hauls out of there a lot I counted 13 TMC trucks in norfolk the day I was there. People and loads were very pleasant where I was. But it was a complete cluster. I was the last truck loaded though and it was starting to rain so they let me chain down in the warehouse I was thankful for that.

I worked next to one for a while. Lunchtime at the C-store I'd see a few of them fill up their 32oz cups with beer and head back to work.
