I recently got the physical damage and cargo insurance around $700 a month
Still need the liability I heard about the non trucking liability not too much expensive if I get this can I start working
or I still need to have the full liability
Because the company the one I'm looking to work with it under their name told me
To bring my own insurance because they no give insurance for drivers running under their company name
I was calling the insurance brokers no one give me a price under $1600 a month for physical damage and cargo and liability
and some of insurance companies more expensive . So I heard about the non trucking insurance not to experience
Are you guys recommend me to get it

Non-trucking liability covers you when you are not under dispatch. Essentially it covers you when the carrier's liability doesn't. If you have to provide your own insurance, which is rare, then non-trucking is no use to you. You would need to have liability insurance.

One of the things a carrier must provide in order to get its operating authority is liability/cargo insurance. I did lease to a carrier where I had to provide my "own". But essentially I had to schedule my truck and pay for it directly through their insurance carrier. If you are hauling a load, and there is damage to the cargo, the carrier's insurance will pay.

There are carriers that will require you pay for the cost of insurance, but they provide it. If your carrier requires that you get your own liability/cargo insurance, I would look at finding a different carrier. Once again, when hauling freight, the insurance that is on file with the FMCSA should be on the hook, not yours.

The issue with this carrier I think want from anyone running under their name bring own insurance not by them ... I know usually the carrier should provide the owner op by their insurance and owner op pay for the carrier monthly

Run far away! By law the carrier that "owns" the motor carrier authority must provide the public liability and cargo. They can charge you for it, but they must provide it. If you need to get your own public liability you might as well just get your own authority and cut them out all together.

If they are wanting to break this most basic of FMCSA regulation, then what other rules are they going to break or ask you to "bend". No thanks. The FMCSA requires them to treat your truck as if they owned it and you as if you were an employee for liability purposes. There is no legal way they can transfer this risk on to you, and why would you accept the risk anyhow?

Now, non-trucking liability and physical damage is not their problem, but cargo and public liability is.

I'll echo @brian991219 and tell you to run for the hills as well! Sounds like a solid audit could put this outfit at big risk of having their operating authority yanked. I'd really need to see the language in their agreement to have a solid opinion.

The expense of solely carrying cargo and public liability can only be justified by getting your own authority.

Progressive issued me non-trucking insurance last month after I called everyone else trying to get bob tail insurance to get my first truck home to Michigan.

Being I only have had a cdl for less than a year so no one wanted to issue me insurance

My question is should I keep the non trucking insurance,is it of any use other than if I want to move the truck for personal use
From what I have read on the net nontrucking and bobtail are not the same insurance

Non Trucking (NTL) is for personal use specifically and will not cover you in the event of an issue while driving the truck for any revenue generating purposes. I.E. dropping a load and continuing on to your next terminal to get your next load. If you are under dispatch, it will do nothing for you.

Bobtail would be for driving while/while not under dispatch, without a trailer. If you have an attached trailer, and its empty, Bobtail won't do anything for you.

I guess I will just keep it to get an IN with Progressive even though I won't be driving the truck over the next 6 months.

My understanding is that if you don't drop your trailer, or if you bobtail, it's never for a dispatch, you want NTL. If you switch trailers regularly, ie do drop and hook, and never not under dispatch while connected to the trailer, you want bobtail.
