My Dad used to use a service like this when he would run the Chicago area. Being from Texas my Dad had never traveled in Illinois and in the early 1980's my Dad had a regular route that he ran but every few weeks he had a super high paying load that would pick up in Chicago and go south to New Orleans. I remember him telling about something like this. He would call them when he was about 50 miles away from the Chicago city limits and they would provide a route for him to follow. He told me they also had the option of sending out an escort vehicle that you could follow too. Kind neat. As an owner operator it was an extra expense but he said it was well worth it to avoid any fines or violations until he learned his way around the Chicago area.

That means Local Deliveries Only, not a through truck route. The likely reason being the road probably narrows with double street-side parking. If you're dragging a 53' trailer, you may have to button hook your turns, and with cars parked all the way to the corners, take great care. If smaller, it'll be easier. Either way, call your destination. If they answer the pone, they'll likely give you reassurance or a different, easier route.

Also, it's Chicago - almost as bad as NYC for low bridges. Read EVERY sign...just in case.

In my oh-so-trusty copy of the Rand McNally Deluxe Motor Carriers' Road Atlas -- the "Restricted Routes" listing for Illinois does NOT include the street you've asked about above.

Nor does it show that street in the area's "low clearance locations" list.

However -- it does specifically point out: "All Boulevards in Chicago are restricted routes"

Thus -- if your delivery is on the street you've specified -- you really should be good (assuming you do have adequate room somewhere to do a worthwhile turnaround).

Call the town or the police (non-emergency phone number) and ask them. Guesses from strangers on the internet are not going to pay the ticket for you if everyone here is wrong.

Other trucks mean nothing. Maybe they have a deal worked with the local PD.

Just like day cabs doing 15 or 20 over. Maybe the local PD is the guys BIL. Maybe his uncle owns the company.

    Always CYA.

There's some place I've delivered to there that just turn into class 3 or non restricted when you go by a certain phone poll.

Usually the distance isn't far, and that designation is near the pick up or delivery.

If you get on a restricted road though, you'll probably get cited. They live to glean money from a working man.

I one time followed "lots of other trucks" down a road that was shown as a no truck road in the shipping office I picked up at, but no signs anywhere. And lots of trucks, including myself, got tickets for it, too. We were lined up on the side of the road in the middle of town like a chicken coupe waiting to be scaled in. 125 dollars later tells me don't assume its ok because you see 3 other trucks doing the same thing.

By the time I got my ticket 3 more had come in behind me to replace us.

Pay attention to what the sign says NOT what you think it says. If you have a delivery or pickup and have already spoken to somebody who has told you it is safe to go on past that sign go on. However, I highly recommend NOT going past that sign if you are simply passing through!
