My Dad used to use a service like this when he would run the Chicago area. Being from Texas my Dad had never traveled in Illinois and in the early 1980's my Dad had a regular route that he ran but every few weeks he had a super high paying load that would pick up in Chicago and go south to New Orleans. I remember him telling about something like this. He would call them when he was about 50 miles away from the Chicago city limits and they would provide a route for him to follow. He told me they also had the option of sending out an escort vehicle that you could follow too. Kind neat. As an owner operator it was an extra expense but he said it was well worth it to avoid any fines or violations until he learned his way around the Chicago area.
Non designated truck route?

Also, it's Chicago - almost as bad as NYC for low bridges. Read EVERY sign...just in case.Candle.leighter Thanks this. -
In my oh-so-trusty copy of the Rand McNally Deluxe Motor Carriers' Road Atlas -- the "Restricted Routes" listing for Illinois does NOT include the street you've asked about above.
Nor does it show that street in the area's "low clearance locations" list.
However -- it does specifically point out: "All Boulevards in Chicago are restricted routes"
Thus -- if your delivery is on the street you've specified -- you really should be good (assuming you do have adequate room somewhere to do a worthwhile turnaround).

If you already been there and didnt hit anything and theres lots of other trucks around on that road AND your delivering the area what are you worried about?
-
Just like day cabs doing 15 or 20 over. Maybe the local PD is the guys BIL. Maybe his uncle owns the company.
Always CYA.tscottme and Flat Earth Trucker Thank this. -
There's some place I've delivered to there that just turn into class 3 or non restricted when you go by a certain phone poll.
Usually the distance isn't far, and that designation is near the pick up or delivery.
If you get on a restricted road though, you'll probably get cited. They live to glean money from a working man.tscottme, Flat Earth Trucker and lual Thank this. -

Dave_in_AZ Thanks this. -
Pay attention to what the sign says NOT what you think it says. If you have a delivery or pickup and have already spoken to somebody who has told you it is safe to go on past that sign go on. However, I highly recommend NOT going past that sign if you are simply passing through!
