I bought a single axle semi that I was going to convert into a very large pickup truck. I have it registered for private use. Can I disregard the signs that say "no trucks", since I'm basically just a very large pickup?
I say "was going to convert", because because two days after I bought it, I found one that was already done and bought it as well. I now own two semis and don't know the first thing about the trucking business. The one that isn't converted to a pickup is a very clean truck with only 200k miles on it. Is it possible to make any money with only one truck having someone else drive it? If anyone has any ideas (or a trailer, but no tractor) let me know. I'm open to any ideas. I,m sure I'm going to get in trouble soon because my house looks like a truckstop. My next door neighbor already hates me because I caught one of her cats in one of those glue traps you set out for rats and now it doesn't hardly have any hair left. Plus that, when I was pulling the truck in my drive (I haven't driven a semi in over 30 years), I cut the corner too close and ran over some "prize winning" rose bushes of hers. I'm pretty sure they won't win any prizes now, since they look like a steamroller went over them.

You didn't give us a lot of information about where you are in your life, but unless you are willing to start and learn a very complicated and competitive business, sell the rig. Not meaning to cut it short, but if you acquired a plumbers truck would you be looking to go in the plumbing business?

Methinks that decision will soon be made for him. When you start destroying property right off the bat you soon gonna get real acquainted with the local LEO's and that could be an expensive relationship. Bringing the rig in before even checking out the "restrictions" ain't the brightest move either.
Sadly you can expect another "Trucker runs over......."article to hit the newstands soon. -
i just read your post and busted out laughing so hard
Paddletrucker Thanks this. -
as far as the no truck signs, i would call your local police department and ask them. i got lost in some back roads once and saw a sign no trucks allowed, meanwhile a cop was behind me, never pulled me over thankfully.

So you're that neighbor, huh?
I busted up, too. -
You can convert all you want, but how much weight and size can you shed from that tractor?

The No Trucks sign usually denotes "No thru trucks" or "No trucks except local delivery". It was always a temptation for me to call the recieving party an say "Sorry dude, illegal for me to enter your neighborhood. You'll haveta come out here and ferry yer shipment in yourself".
